Talking with another operator yesterday and the cube came up, which prompted me to explore the options inside it a little deeper. Didn’t realize this came with a built-in contact logger. Not sure if this is the most efficient way to go about it, but so dope that it’s baked in.

Drone had a rough spill last week, but a little tinkering got it back up and over the water. Gonna be nice to get back to using it to deploy the EFHW wire up on chilly days like today.

Didn’t get a ton of time touching grass today either, but was able to setup quick enough and try running my EFHW without a coax feed line and it actually worked. Got a nice sunset and evening breeze out of it, too.

This is such a good take, and on a similar note - our adventure in de-tethering continues. Spotify subscription cancelled - digitizing our physical collection and going back to DIY. I was able to dig up and repurpose my fully functional S7. No SIM card, debloated, dropped a 1TB SD in there. 10/10.

ICE is reported to have taken people in several areas around Chicago this morning - Irving Park, Albany Park, Rogers Park, Evanston. Our old hood got tear gassed and someone was kidnapped. Sharing the community alert to signal boost.

Here is Broadview, clearly inside of the drone flight restriction radius imposed by the DHS. I am not allowed to fly my drone at home within this radius (that I would like to use to deploy my EFHW antenna). Very nice of them to (try to) take our skies from us while also using our skies to stalk us.

@nylafoxphrey.bsky.social and I lived in the 33rd ward and saw this woman every day for years while commuting out of Kimball Station. All the women working in this area are the sweetest people ever. This lady would have fed you and given you bottled water on the cheap.

Committed to being as cheap as fucking possible where I could, I grabbed a heavy duty tripod from a hardware store for 20 bucks, 60lbs of tube sand for 5 bucks, and made three DIY ~10lb sandbag weights to stabilize the tripod. Faraday cloth beneath as a ground plane (shoutout Michael KB9VBR) worked.

My makeshift quarter wave telescopic antenna setup is alive! Didn’t have as much time as I’d have liked to fine-tune, but I managed to hear some bleeps and blips on 20m. For a first attempt, not too shabby at all.
