When we use the Tractoriae from the Carolingian sources as a guide to help assess volumes needed to just feed a 120 people in a bishops retinue. Then soon see that an army of 1200 men is going to require 30 pigs a day, 1000kg of grain, 400kg of bread, 1500litres of wine/ale

That allows us not only a rough estimate of warriors raised by hidage but also an idea around hidages used by bishops, reeves, royal vassels with regards to raising supplies for entourages and probable military expeditions.

The problem is hides steming from the Burghal Hidage system, it's a way of raising troops and a way of organising tax collection in the country. Alas though hides don't follow an actual predetermined size. An average a hide is between 24 - 55 acres depending on the shire.

However if consumption of between 1-3kg of meat , 1.5L of wine and 500g of bread is your thing then get your self into a Carolingian Entourage of the 9th century.
