THAT is what made it the MOST famous person on the earth. skyrocketing past queen elizabeth imo because his career of entertainment was more media focused than her life was. And then it just stayed like that.

it continued thru the 80s, even with the periods of no new music, the media/tabloids wanted the picture of michael… not to see who he was with or where he was going but to see what he looked like now, what changed now, how much lighter now. everyone was hooked white, black, and everyone in between.

thriller was a musical masterpiece, but people debate its ranking of goated albums which means it’s not unanimous and there are other works people hold higher (songs in the key of life, a night at the opera, the bodyguard, purple rain, lemonade/beyonce, miseducation) but his visual was shocking

then the changes began, he had more money than ever and more freedom to make decisions.
with the release of thriller there was a new nose and he was already lighter in complexion tho still definitely black (in color). the change was the start of spectacle and the music video showed it.

yes, he was arguably the first child star to remain relevant/continue to rise into prominence into late adolescence and early adulthood hood. but i believe that rise was very linear concluding with his fifth album off the wall that saw him at his greatest form in original packaging (harsh ik).
