This is the March image in my 2026 calendar, "The Public's Land." Canyon de Chelly is owned by the Navajo Tribal Trust, but it was designated a national monument (1931) and is managed by the National Park Service. Link in the first comment #photography #navajo #canyondechelly

"Hey, is this Heaven?"
"No. It's Yosemite."
This is the January image from my 2026 calendar, "The Public's Land." Notice the baseball backstop in the bottom center of the photo. Imagine Shoeless Joe Jackson emerging from the outfield trees.

My 2026 calendar, "The Public's Land," is in-stock and ready to ship. The calendar celebrates iconic and not-so-iconic places owned by the public and managed by federal, state, and local agencies. The cover image is Curtis Island Lighthouse, owned by the Town of Camden, Maine. Link in the comments.

Sunrise in Shenandoah National Park. We recently completed a 10-week cross country road trip that brought across the northern US, into Canada, to Maine, and down to the Great Smoky Mountains NP. There is much to be said for the simplicity of the road. #photography #fallfoliage #landscapephotography

The River Scarabs

Now that I've come home to my bigger monitors and more comfortable chair I can start getting creative with the shooting from the last two months.

The underlying image is a reflection in the Eel River in Northern California. #photography #abstract

#Nokingswilkesbarre A great turnout in the Public Square. Very peaceful and determined. Some ass**** drove around with Trump flags and brandished a gun. Cops pulled him over before he got halfway around the square, arrested him, and towed his Jeep.

Sunrise this morning near Dayton, Washington. After the previous night's rainstorm we weren't sure that the sun would come out to play, but after some hesitation we were granted about 10 minutes worth of sunshine.

At the #NoKings protest in Culver City. I was in no way *hoping* for a Battleship Potemkin "baby carriage rolling down the stairs" moment, but I was also going to be ready just in case it happened.

#nokings in Culver City today. A raucous and joyful affair. I have no official count, but 2,000-5,000 is the ballpark.

We're on a Road from Nowhere

Whenever possible I'll take a train over a plane or bus. It's more relaxing and the tracks are often laid through property that is otherwise off-limits to the public (a Ted Turner ranch in New Mexico, for instance). This is in Alaska, between Denali and Anchorage.

The Immigrants.

Not too long ago a large ship that divested thousands of people onto the dock would have been introducing them to their new home, their new country, rarely if ever returning back across the sea. Now it's just Vancouver, CA, on a Friday morning in mid-May.
