This is how I’d line us up tomorrow. Whilst I’d be tempted to go to a 4ATB and maybe start another striker against a Rotherham side allergic to possession, this shape is fluid enough to push Jones & Bramall up as high as possible, whilst keep coverage from any counters with Odoffin & Walsh.

It…

Here’s what I’m guessing Jack is going to line up with tomorrow/today.

He supposedly played 433 with Arsenal U18 and for me, it’s the formation we should have been playing from pre season.

Solid, stay at home back four will allow Alli & Morris to “do what they enjoy” (as JW said in his presser).
October 18, 2025 at 4:20 AM
This isn’t an XI to start any time soon, but given JW’s record of working with youth, he’s got to be excited at working with the U23s currently at the club.

This is without the likes of Chigozie, Harris, Lynch, & Archer.

Midfield is light + Walters & Johnson need to prove themselves, but exciting.

Sure, Jack’s determined demeanor and steeliness is taking the headlines. But for me the biggest indicator that we’re going up as f’cking champions is Chris Powell’s turtleneck x suit jacket fit.

This is a business fit and the man is here for business.

This is the XI for me on Saturday.

Only potential change would be Mengi in for Bramall and pushing Kal out to LB, although with Kodua at LW the overlap and speed of Bramall would be helpful.

If I’m MB, this is how I’m setting up tomorrow.

Plymouth set up pretty consistently as 4231. Get Makosso and Lonwijk pressing up. Kodua and Alli pinning the full backs.

I want to see what two weeks, plus the signing of Ali AH, has done for Yates & Nordas. Want to see that firing!

One thing I don’t see being discussed enough is how this window’s business has significantly refreshed the squad.

Here’s an U23s line up that shows how we’ve hopefully reloaded the team for the next era.

Arguably work to be done at full back and a lack of physicality in midfield, but as an XI…

4-2-3-1

This is the one I think MB will go for. It allows for a five man midfield, a 10 and wingers: all something we’ve been playing with through pre-season.

The key to this will be getting Odoffin fit, firing and forming a relationship with Saville quick. If we can get a solid base in midfield…

4-3-3

This is the formation I felt RE should have played from the off last season, even more so once Fanne was signed.

Defensively sound, midfield mobile, & wingers who should be dominating at this level.

The key to this is the trust in the scouting work + actual work of Lamine Fanne. He was…

For tomorrow, I’m not sure MB will go 4ATB right away and so this is where I’d go.

Similar to the other week, we need Clarke deeper. I’d put that with Fanne deeper. He’s an 8, not a 10, and I’ll keep yelling this until he’s played there regularly!

Bramall offers defensive, Kodua more attacking

Provided Mads is fit, here’s what I’d want to see tomorrow.

Lonwijk played well on Tuesday but we just look so much better with Makosso and Andersen in that back line.

We need two up top and the extra man in midfield. Nordas & Yates looked good for the 30min they were together and we looked…

How I’d set up today.

As has been noted by a lot of people, our midfield is simply not working. We need an extra body in there and to win that battle in order for us to shift the ball further up.

Give Yates a player off his shoulder.

Allow Bramall & Kodua to bomb on.

Lonwijk for athleticism.

Here’s how I’d set up tomorrow.

As noted last week, the formation with the two 10s doesn’t work for me in both shape and the personnel deployed there. Add to that the fact Bradford play that same 3-4-2-1 shape and I could see us being run out of town if we try to match it.

Solution for me is drop…

Here is how I would want MB to set us up tomorrow, plus some thoughts.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of 3AB. It’s a 10+ year old tactic in its current guise and last Friday it severely limited our ability to get the overloads MB stated we’re after in the final third. For it to work, Kal + Makosso have to…

I’m starting to get excited for Friday now. Whilst our starting XI is maybe a striker & LB/LWB short of being the best in the league, our squad has to be the best in the league.

With what we’ve got, I’d like to see us start with this on Friday.
July 30, 2025 at 11:52 PM
No Doughty? No problem.

This is how I want us setting up on Friday.

Strong back line with ball playing ability.

Midfield with bite and endeavour.

Forward line with a mix bag of pace, strength, and directness.
July 28, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Seen a few people starting to talk about possible starting XIs come next Friday. Rather than predict that right now, I thought I’d share my ideal starting XI if/once everyone is fit, as the squad is today (appreciating of course that some of these will leave and (hopefully) we’ll have some more in)…
July 21, 2025 at 3:59 AM
Having thought about it some more, the three signings today have the potential to be season defining.

A TikTok talking head described it as “signing three of the best players you can have by position in L1” & here’s why they’re not too far off (despite none of them getting in my starting XI)…
July 11, 2025 at 12:08 AM
Based on yesterday’s game, in’s & out’s, & MB’s post game comments, this for me is our current best XI.

I know he didn’t play 433 but I’d love to see it as it’ll get the best of Fanne, Walsh & Saville, as well as allow AD (or his replacement) & Walters to bomb on.

Add to this & we could be v good.
July 6, 2025 at 9:30 AM
Whilst I think we may need / have a slightly higher turnover than this @ntt20.com closing remark suggests, it does provide a good, neutral viewpoint on where we’re at.

We should use this opportunity to refresh and build the squad for the next 5 years, but we don’t have to do it all right now.
June 13, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Seeing the Mads & Fanne rumours, so getting this out now.

This, for me, is what a superb summer would look like. Some serious ins and some necessary outs.

Realistic - yes.

Likely - doubt it. Just as long as we’re close.

Let’s be honest. This appointment didn’t exactly enthuse the fanbase. The initial eight games were rough but he managed to turn the mood around and we were on play off form for the last 10. He got the players fit and running and got the fans to hope. Given where he’d got a mediocre

should be playing at least one step higher, if not more, in the coming seasons. If we can add in the window and bring through players from an evidently extremely talented U19 batch, the future will be looking a little brighter come the dawn.

6 U25 Squad
We’ve had an under the radar squad refresh this season. Whilst I’d expect some of those in this list to be moved on, the likes of Christ, Macca, Nelson, Thelo, Lamine, Alli, Nordas & Lynch should be the basis of the next generation. And there’s some real talent there that
