Slim, long-tailed, pretty waxbill. The upperparts are pale brown and the underparts and tail blue. Males have a distinctive magenta mark on the cheek. Generally common in a wide variety of open habitat, including dry thornscrub, all types of savanna, villages, and cultivation. Usually in pairs or small flocks.

Velvet shank #fungi
A small group of velvet shank fungi. A nice light orange colour. The centre is a large fully open fungus viewer from underneath and so showing its gills. Beneath it are three smaller velvet shanks, looking edge on. They are growing on a moss-covered stump. Partly in the frame on the left is another couple of velvet shanks showing their gills.
