My beautiful dog Nellie stands in a dog park. The ground is worn away by dog paws, so you just see a few hints of green grass here and there. Nellie is a 60 pound dog of indeterminate breed. She looks a bit like a shrunken lab. She has black, coarse, short hair that is liberally flecked with grey. Her muzzle is fully grey now, because she is an old gal. On her back left leg, she is wearing a full leg brace. The brace is bright pink with black straps.

I'm such a fan, I had this tattooed on my arm. Can I join? Bonus picture is my favourite quote that hangs on my wall at work.

Context is everything for me. I visited the Louvre with a narrow focus on viewing art looted during the Third Reich. The MNR gallery was deeply moving, and standing in front of Vermeer’s The Astronomer gave me chills, knowing the history of this specific painting. Explanation in the second image.

Combo #DIY and #dogsofbluesky post. Here’s my gorgeous girl Nellie in a coat I made for her using scrap fabric and a fabulous fur collar I found at Value Village. Pro-tip: you can easily create a pattern for dog clothes out of any dog coat you have that fits. It is easier than you think it would be!

Here is the finished space. I DIY’d the area rugs too out of upholstery fabric :) I like a bold space with mixed patterns. Running into issues with this? Ask me! I’ve done it a ton.

Continue pasting, leveling and tacking until you hit the floor and then unpin from the top of the wall and work from the middle up. I sectioned these panels into four different applications.

If your mixture looks like the first image (more white on the bottom) rather than a consistent opaque (second image), it’s gone wrong and you need to start over. Allow to cool and then transfer to a paint tray.
Cornstarch paste that has gone wrong looks separated. In this image, you can see the cornstarch has sunk to the bottom and it doesn’t look like glue. This image shows a cornstarch paste that will work properly. It is opaque and full mixed together.

Playing with content options, and thought I’d share a walkthrough on how to DIY your own removable wallpaper out of (mostly) any fabric. It peels right off the wall with no damage from the fabric and the cornstarch paste washes off with warm water. This is a fun option for fellow maximalists!

Finally deactivated my account after deleting my tweets back to 2009 (!). I've been hit or miss since I scored an invite to Bluesky, mostly lurking, but the balance has finally tipped and my feed here is busier than the bad place. Hoping to build up some followers here, so posting some dog bait.

Alana Vincent, Associate Professor, Religious Studies, Umeà University, Sweden: Here's what I really think, as a scholar of religion: the answer to "Is a hot dog an sandwich" is far less interesting than the mental and emotional energy people put into defending the norms that shape their worldview, which are destabilised when the question is raised. "Is X a Y", for any value of X or Y, implies that the answer COULD be yes (or no), and creates a consciousness of similarly (or Text continues from previous image… difference) where none existed previously. By bringing categories into question, it shows that they can be questioned; the actual answer is of very little significance in the face of this terrifying revelation. Beginning in the late 18th century, "Is X a Y" was asked about entire categories of human beings who had previously been excluded from the category of rational political actors (Jews, women, people of color, etc.), and the world we now live in was shaped by the destabilisation that question produced in the minds of the people who asked it; in many ways we are still suffering from the after effects. For the cause of universal human equality this is a small price to pay, of course, but would you really want to take that risk for a hot dog?

It was only after I set this up that I realized I’ve sort of created the cat version of Napoleon’s travel tent when he went to battle. Some would argue unnecessarily luxurious for a cat you don’t really know and it’s the same colour. Fingers crossed this gets him through the cold snap.

Coincidentally, I saw the cat as more than just a terrified blur for the first time a couple of days ago so now he has a name. We’ve called him Napoleon because he’s a damn survivor, surly and suspicious of strangers (and I just got back from 10 days in Paris so he was on my mind).
