to say nothing of this might be the first ESSCA meeting I’ve been to where most of the attendees were below retirement age 😅 pedestrian safety is absolutely not just an issue for parents with kids, but it’s important to have them speaking out

I’ve been on the ESSCA board for four years and was blown away by how many people showed up to call for safer streets—and demand that @mcdotnow.bsky.social do their job. it is progress, and I’m hopeful that we can actually make some positive change

in our @ggwash.org testimony I noted that parking in bike lanes (or on sidewalks, crosswalks, etc) is unsafe and shows that we don’t care about this place—which discourages people from wanting to come and spend time here. ggwash.org/files/ggwash...

fascinating. we used to have republicans like that in maryland but now most of them (at least in the dc suburbs) just call themselves democrats, which is very confusing

my understanding is that mikie sherrill’s housing platform is actually kinda shruggy, but what if you put her saying “we need more houses” over a shot of a dead deer by the side of the road? v scary. montgomery county nimbys better take notes

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

on my knees praying for Solaire Social to be replaced by something good. this may very well be my "St. Mark's is Dead" moment but a lot my favorite Silver Spring spots from my 20s are gone and I would love that scene to return, in some form

ironically the Solaire Social owners made the same mistake Jon Taffer did in 2012 when he turned the beloved Piratz Tavern into Corporate Bar: he saw big office buildings and assumed that's all Silver Spring was about www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/st...
‘Bar Rescue’ gets the boot in Silver Spring after Piratz Tavern renovation goes bust

The matching t-shirts that said something along the lines of “save Colesville’s charm, say no to townhomes” were worn by a crowd almost entirely made up of old white people, as expected at a 2:30 pm hearing on a Thursday.

This group doesn’t have the sanction of the community it thinks it does

and the Planning Board just voted 3-1-1 in favor of the Notley Road rezoning 😮‍💨 it was good to see vice chair @joshlinden.bsky.social push back on some negative comments about townhouses and who lives in them. next the Board of Appeals will take this up, followed by the County Council this winter.
