in our @ggwash.org testimony I noted that parking in bike lanes (or on sidewalks, crosswalks, etc) is unsafe and shows that we don’t care about this place—which discourages people from wanting to come and spend time here. ggwash.org/files/ggwash...
Dear Council President Stewart and members of the County Council: My name is Dan Reed and I serve as the Maryland Policy Director for Greater Greater Washington, a nonprofit that works to advance better land use, transportation, and housing policies throughout Greater Washington. GGWash supports Bill 28-25, which would prohibit drivers from stopping, standing, or parking in bike lanes. There are a lot of demands on the curbside in Montgomery County, especially in our downtowns like Silver Spring and Bethesda: whereas once the focus was solely on parking cars, our curbsides now have to handle a growing number of deliveries and dropoffs. Bicyclists and scooter riders are also part of the mix, as on some streets that’s the safest place for a bike lane to go. We need to do more to manage all of the things competing for limited curb space. That’s a primary reason why drivers park in bike lanes, even though every time someone does that, they’re putting others in danger. If there’s a car in the bike lane, someone riding a bike or scooter has to swerve into the general traffic lane or up on the sidewalk, increasing the chance of a crash. Bill 28-25 would add bikeways to the other places where drivers aren’t supposed to stop or leave their car, such as sidewalks, crosswalks, and intersections. This is already the law in the city of Rockville, Howard County, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Virginia. Prince George’s County will soon take up a similar bill. Finally, I’ve attached a photo of the recently-completed bike lane outside the Solaire Social food hall on Dixon Avenue in Silver Spring. Drivers are constantly parking in it, rendering the bike lanes useless at best and dangerous at worst. "Compounding that, less people are working from home, and even if they are, they're likely to save costs and eat at home as well. i’m also frustrated that Thomas Taylor suggests having the Purple Line next to a middle school is a bad thing. it’s good that kids can walk to school! it’s good for kids to be able to access transit! and frankly I trust light rail conductors more than most drivers to be careful around pedestrians

I have been in New Haven for three hours and already I have
1) eaten ice cream
2) touched a Paul Rudolph building
3) walked around most of Yale I guess
4) saw a picture of a dog
excited to have a few moments of alone time before the onslaught
It’s a scoop of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and in the back it’s a bike race, but it’s kind of blurry Paul Rudolph’s Yale school of architecture, a large concrete building, but the concrete has a wavy texture kind of like corduroy. I really enjoyed touching it.
