grateful to @evanmglass.bsky.social for speaking to the East Silver Spring Civic Association tonight and listening to my neighbors, who want something done about traffic safety. just this year drivers hit an 11yo in February, me and my dog in May, and this week a kid biking to school—

in our @ggwash.org testimony I noted that parking in bike lanes (or on sidewalks, crosswalks, etc) is unsafe and shows that we don’t care about this place—which discourages people from wanting to come and spend time here. ggwash.org/files/ggwash...

this is about New York but could apply to many places, including Maryland: when we make it hard to build homes, tenants and working families lose. more supply and tenant protections go hand in hand jacobin.com/2025/10/new-...

idk why anyone's surprised that downtown Silver Spring doesn't have a ton of lunchtime business, but fascinating to hear that Solaire Social's bar was actually the now-closed food hall's big draw. a rare W for the decade-long push for more nightlife here www.bizjournals.com/washington/n...

i’m also frustrated that Thomas Taylor suggests having the Purple Line next to a middle school is a bad thing. it’s good that kids can walk to school! it’s good for kids to be able to access transit! and frankly I trust light rail conductors more than most drivers to be careful around pedestrians

back at the mosaic district in merrifield for the first time in years and almost didn’t recognize it—and it’s bc of the big mature street trees! this development opened in 2012 (here’s a photo from 2015) but the trees make it feel much older

I really wanted a space where queer folks could meet each other at #yimbytown and I’m stoked that we pulled it off! also my neighbor gave me this pride flag and this was a great excuse to use it 🏳️🌈

counterpoint to both of the things I just said: on the #yimbytown conference app you can say what you’re interested in and it’s not looking good for me 😆

three years ago at #yimbytown I attended the founding meeting of
@welcomingneighbors.us, maybe 10 people max, and yesterday we had 150 folks from 50 orgs in the US and beyond. it’s cool to see how much this community has grown and to meet so
many awesome people who care about the stuff I care about

modest mouse blasting in the ballroom at @yimbytown.bsky.social breakfast before @hatethegamebook.com, who graduated college a year after me, spoke. 1000 people here and I feel like I know most of them. gives me hope that it does feel like millennials are finally stepping into our power #yimbytown

bonus Paul Rudolph: the view from my hotel room is of his Temple Street parking garage (1963) which, if you’re going to look at a parking garage, you could do way worse

I have been in New Haven for three hours and already I have
1) eaten ice cream
2) touched a Paul Rudolph building
3) walked around most of Yale I guess
4) saw a picture of a dog
excited to have a few moments of alone time before the onslaught

and on Monday 9/15, join me and @burhanazeem.bsky.social @andersem.bsky.social @futurewise.bsky.social @charlescgardner.bsky.social for a debate on the merits of inclusionary zoning. it was invented right here in Montgomery County in 1974, and I'm on the side of "it is generally good"–
