Sisu: Road to Revenge Spoilers Out Of Context

Those publishers who pump out nice looking cheap paperbacks of classic out of copyright fiction? Yeah, I'm one of impulse buyers who keep them in business.

Describe your favourite movie in the most misleading way possible.

Two men meet at work and form a special connection.

To paraphrase Orwell:

I have no love for the idealized "Average American" as they appear in a politician's rhetoric, but when I see an actual flesh-and-blood American on the streets in conflict with their natural enemies, ICE and other police, I do not have to ask myself which side I am on.

Was not expecting the best laugh in Clown in a Cornfield to come from it's IMDB goofs section.

Made this meme to explain to a friend what it feels like to read the first Animorphs book as an adult.

In the middle of season 3 of my Good Place rewatch. After lots of great laughs and interesting exploration of the ideas of ethics and morals and empathy (all of which are more relevant now than when it aired), we get this fun line that I think the Trump administration would consider a Terrorism?

This is an actual screenshot from the film showing Calvary Hill. They also show The Last Supper, the 30 pieces of silver etc.

Do they explore any of the thematic, historical, or religious implications of this? No. Not all all. Its revealed, out of nowhere, 5 minutes before Dracula dies. 4/5

6 years ago, I was flying to Wellington as a terror was inflicted upon my home city of Christchurch taking 51 innocent lives including my co-worker Talha.

As the news was still breaking I found the following graffiti hastily scrawled on Cuba St: Fuck White Supremacy! Love to Muslims. <3

Spoilers for the first issue of The Power Fantasy by @casparw.bsky.social and @kierongillen.bsky.social

There's a joke here about the last month and half of American Politics but I'm pretty sure if I make it I'll end up on some kind of watchlist

Heart Eyes smashes Rom-Com tropes into a Slasher film framework. I don't think most people would call it 'good', but if you're anything like me you'll find it to be the trashy kind of fun.

An absolute classic that still stands above the countless entries into the dystopian sub-genre it inspired. Every other page has an absolute gutpunch of line. So crushingly oppressive that I'm surprised more people don't discuss it as a work of Horror. Part satire, part warning, all torment nexus.

Today for #recommendabookwednesday I'm going to recommend the classic dystopia I'm currently rereading: George Orwell's 1984. I've been thinking about Orwell a lot recently, what with the accelerated rise of American Fascism and all, and decided to take a copy of 1984 with me on holiday.

There is a sequel called A Desolation Called Peace and that I also liked, although I will say that I vibed with AMCE's strong singular POV more that ADCP's four-POV split.

I read somewhere Martine plans to write more in the same universe following different characters and I'm excited to read that.

Todays #recommendabookwednesday is A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine ( @byzantienne.bsky.social ). It's a Sci-fi story about a young ambassador from an independent system sent to the capital planet of a powerful neighbouring empire. Culture shock and court intrigue follow.

IMO the best part of Mothership is the online community of independent designers who have made a wide variety of creative, gorgeous home brew modules twisting the core rules to cover the full breadth of both Sci-Fi and Horror.

I kickstarted the deluxe core set, but all you really need is the Player's Survival Guide which has a couple essential random tables in it. The Warden's Manual is full of great advice on running any Horror TTRPG, especially a very interesting breakdown of different horror sub genres.

The stress/panic mechanic is very cool and organically leads to interesting story beats. Almost everything else is covered by a simple d100-roll under skill system, enough to make you good at what your character does but not enough to slow the game down.

Going to cheat a little for todays #recommendabookwednesday and recommend a TTRPG. I just wrapped up the intro adventure for the #MothershipRPG and my players and I had a great time.

It's basically a rules light framework for Sci-Fi Horror and I think its pretty great.

A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Published 1912.

Man, that Disclaimer wasn't kidding.

I'm re-reading the Animorphs books for the first time since 2001 and this scene from The Hork-Bajir Chronicles is just the latest of many moments that took my breath away.

"Either they will learn to fight and hurt and kill, or they will learn to be slaves. Both will destroy them."

Today's recommendation is for fans of short fiction. Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Alst Jr. is probably the best short story collection I've read in the last couple years.
