This powerful scene shows something survivors have been trying to explain for decades.

Freeze. Comply. Dissociate. These are not choices — they’re automatic trauma responses.

F*ck those who don’t understand.

DID and OSDD aren’t theatrics.
They’re what happens when a brain has to compartmentalize the unbearable to keep a child alive.

Before diagnosis, many people quietly carry thoughts like:

• “Why am I like this?”
• “Am I making this up?”
• “Is something wrong with me?”
• “Why does life feel harder for me than it seems for others?”

Those questions create a kind of internal groundlessness.

Laughing hysterically and crying hysterically at the same time because you just heard the song that saved your life lifetimes ago for the 1st time in decades, and you also just discovered it's safe to cry in front of someone.

Yep.

Shower time is "our" time to talk. Getting ready to shower I said, ok, safe to talk.

Just then, my wife comes in without knocking.

Next thing, I'm at the sink & she's walking away muttering. Something's off.

I ask, what'd you say?

"You snapped: 'What do you need?'" she says.

No memory.

Yep.

Just got a diagnosis and went to reddit to talk about feeling conflicted.

Then realized I'd posted virtually the same thing 6 months earlier, when the diagnostic process started.

Didn't remember that at all.

Yep.
