The transgression of Annie's spiritual death:

My theory is that she spiritually died at Charlie's funeral - demons need an emotional wound to enter.

Paimon's Mom is transferred to Annie in Charlie's clubhouse, under (hellish) heat.

Paimon's Mother, now in Annie, severs her family. #filmthread

First and last image. It was always in this tragic plan for Peter to wear the crown - for Paimon to be reborn in Peter.

Blue = life, white = death. Yellow = the spirit world

Though Peter's body lives, Peter's spirit is dead. Opposed to Grandma, whose body died, but lived in spirit. #cinephile

Sorry for the gore. Just showing some symbolism here.

Demon transference.

Night of Charlie's death.

White light calls Charlie to die.

Red light calls Paimon to rise, being born again upon Peter's head.

In death, Grandmother (Demon Mom) summons Charlie (Paimon) via a white light. The curtains frame the center circle, representing the crown on Paimon's head, resting over Charlie's head as she sleeps.

Trees crown Paimon's head.

The crown is transferred from Charlie to its desired host, Peter.

One of my favorite films is Ari Aster's "Hereditary", simply because of its seemingly invisible B story: demon Paimon's Mother eradicates human moms to assure her son rises.

Charlie in bed mirrors her Grandmother in a casket, as Paimon's Mother exchanges Grandma's body for her daughter, Annie.

Following her earthly father's footsteps, Bella becomes a doctor. Honoring God, her womanhood and her freedom.

Eve, ruling her own garden!

Thank you.

BISH SHE BETTER THAN ME.

Bella, a goddess of grace, who turned him into a chicken dog. Like her own making, finding birth, in death. #screenwriting

BUT THERE'S A FINAL VILLAIN: THE DEVIL HIMSELF - Alfie, Victoria's ex-husband who she tried to flee by suicide.

Death was her choice, but God took it away.

What choice will Bella have now: her death, again... or his?

God's dying; Max hunts Duncan down to find Bella - and in exploration of his own masculinity, uses power, dominance and violence.

On her return, Max doesn't judge Bella's sexual exploits. She's free. In a *masculine action, Bella proposes to Max.

Green = blue + yellow.

Back home, God shames himself for loving Bella - she should have remained an experiment.

However, he has no attachment to his new experiment Felicity, whom he refers to as a chicken dog.

The hypocrisy: hating the woman you said you want. Men are empowered by trapping the bird.

A friend, Toinette, not only sexually pleasures Bella outside of the financial transaction of sex, but explores Bella's body outside its usual usage of sex and experimentation for men.

Bella discovers her lost baby, which God used in place of her mind. She is mother and daughter.
December 13, 2024 at 7:27 PM
Bella meets a new friend: Swiney.

Unlike Martha who praises the mind, Swiney teaches Bella that sex is powerful, too.

Bella explores her pleasure while being a sex worker: educational, kink, emotional connection... what will work for her?
December 13, 2024 at 7:27 PM
Duncan despises Bella's friends for encouraging Bella to explore fulfillment outside of his own benefit, and despises Bella for no longer admiring him.

Bella: "I believed in you the whole time. That you would rise to the occasion. Now however I see that was misplaced."

A READ.

So, Bella's conflicted: is she a bad person for benefiting from class privilege, or a good person for trying to save the world?

Bella quickly learns that unlike what God has taught her, the world is not black and white.

It's grey. She lands in Paris.
December 13, 2024 at 7:27 PM
She meets two new friends, Martha and Harry.

Martha teaches Bella the idea of self improvement. Sex isn't everything.

Harry is a cynic who shares with her the dark reality of the world.

Bella is introduced to philosophy: the war of ideas.
December 13, 2024 at 7:27 PM
To control Bella, Duncan traps her in a new world: a ship. A bird in a much larger cage.

The world is vividly colored blue; a parallel to the woman we met, killing herself in the opening.

It's also the inception of Bella fulfilling her mind.
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
Duncan: "Must be quite a woman to warrant such binding."

Bella: "They love me tight."

Though it appears Bella has found freedom, she's still trapped by another man who despises her independent curiosity and demand for self gratifying pleasure.

Bella discovers violence.
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
Bella breaks into a new world, which we visually see filled with vivid color.

Yellow: Bella exploring on her own, though still completely ruled by the teachings of God and Max.

Blue: the start of fulfilling her own mind.
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
ENTER THE SNAKE: Duncan, God's shady ass lawyer.

He tempts Bella with her desires - she can explore the world with him... and have as much sex (with him) as she desires! She's in!
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
She is immediately shamed by Max (who desires her) - pleasuring yourself is not what you do in polite society.

When God discovers she wants to explore the world, he commands she stay in the world he built.

She's merely a pet. A bird trapped in a cage.
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
Whenever Max questions God, God reminds Max of how stupid he is. God needs submission. Patriarchy needs hierarchy.

Hence, the creation of "Bella": an adult woman with the mind of a child.

Men often infantilize women and persuade us to believe we lack their intelligence.
December 13, 2024 at 7:19 PM
God is an all powerful professor, who isolates himself and only shares space with people that absolutely praise him.

Enter Max - one of his meek, passive, admiring students. Or, "Adam".

A man that identifies as a God must never be challenged. Is he God... or a narcissist?
December 13, 2024 at 7:14 PM
We open on a woman jumping from a bridge, being saved by a man named Godwin.

"God" for short.

From death, he uses the deceased woman's in utero fetus as the source to bring her back to life. "Eve."

The blue atmosphere is starkly reverted to Black and White.

I'm bringing my film dissections here! This one was one of my favorites!

"Poor Things" | Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos

Written by Tony McNamara, based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray.
