Consuming large amounts of Wormseed (Dysphania ambrosioides), post flowering, can cause painful infectious diarrhea and vomiting, and as such it should only be harvested before it produces flowers and seeds.

Winged yam (Dioscorea alata) has aerial tubers which must be cooked well in order to destroy any toxins in them - they can be baked, boiled or fried. Its roots can also be cooked and eaten, and are generally bigger than its aerial tubers.

Wild Potato Vine (Ipomoea Pandurata) produces a large tuber which resembles a sweet potato & is edible cooked, but if eaten raw will result in vomiting. It's best to harvest immature roots. Roasting is the best way to bring out its sweetness.

All parts of Wild Onion (Allium Canadense) can be eaten raw or cooked: the bulb should be harvested in spring & can be used as you would garlic; leaves can be eaten raw or used as a potherb; flowers can be an attractive & intense garnish.

White Oak's (Quercus Alba) acorns are supposed to be sweet and edible directly from the tree. Some can be bitter and thus require processing. If you do find a source of large, sweet and edible acorns, they can be eaten raw, otherwise...

All parts of White clover (Trifolium repens) are edible: its leaves are best blanched, soaked in salt water, or cooked. Young flowers can be eaten raw in salads, cooked, dried for tea, or ground into flour. The cooked root is also edible.

Water Shield's (Brasenia Schreberi) young, curled, leaves can be eaten raw as salad, or cooked as a thickener for soups. Its root can be peeled, cooked and eaten; or it can be peeled, dried, pulverized and then used like flour, or with flour.

One explanation for the name “Traveler’s Palm” (Ravenala madagascariensis) is that rain collected in the base of its leaf-stems has been a source of potable water for travelers, but this water is easily contaminated or infested with mosquito larvae.

The only edible part of Sumac (Rhus Copallina) is its sour fuzz. Harvest spikes of its red fruit, remove their stems before briefly blending in a food processor to separate the seeds from the fuzz, then sieve to remove the inedible seeds.

Nutritious and prolific, Spanish Needle’s (Bidens Alba) young leaves can be consumed fresh or dried, raw or cooked. Older leaves may cause indigestion. Boil in multiple changes of water to remove any bitterness. The plant’s flowers are also edible.
