The LDS Church’s new policy is a cynical ploy to harden the indoctrination of youth for both men and women. They are hoping that by starting with younger missionaries, they will solidify their membership for life.

Missionaries have doors shut in their faces, people yell at them. They are often ignored by the public. This gives missionaries a bias that tells them “the world” is wicked and godless. When they return home with these experiences, they are greeted as heroes, valiant servants of god.
November 25, 2025 at 3:46 PM
It is more difficult for former missionaries to leave the Mormon church because they have sacrificed so much to be a part of it. Additionally, missionaries develop a stronger sense of in-group/out-group thinking through their mission experiences.
November 25, 2025 at 3:43 PM
The stated goal of recruitment is a lie. There are better and more effective ways to get people to join a new religion. The actual purpose of missionary work is retention. People who dedicate their precious youth to serving their church develop a strong sense of sunk cost.
November 25, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Missionaries are sent into situations every day where they are expected to bother strangers by proselytizing about their church and faith. They are often met with hostility and cold indifference from the public.
November 25, 2025 at 3:37 PM
Missionaries in the LDS church have a low rate of conversion. In fact, it is not uncommon for a missionary to return home having never baptized a single new member. This policy change is therefore not about expanding the size of the church.

Semantics aside, I am going off of what NASA stated, but your point still stands and that’s a reasonable distinction.

When Voyager is on the outer bounds of the Oort Cloud, you’re within spitting distance of Alpha Centauri, so there’s no ambiguity as to whether or not it’s interstellar then.

*“Voyage Home” not “Journey.”

Sorry! In my defense I am on cold meds this morning!

According to NASA, both probes are interstellar. “Voyager 1 reaching the interstellar boundary in 2012, while Voyager 2 (traveling slower and in a different direction than its twin) reached it in 2018. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are the only spacecraft in history to operate outside of the heliosphere.”
Interstellar Mission - NASA Science
The Voyager interstellar mission extends the exploration of the solar system beyond the neighborhood of the outer planets to the outer limits of the Sun's sphere of influence, and possibly beyond.

For real, “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” has so much heart. It’s my comfort food of Star Trek movies. “Wrath of Khan” is arguably the best film from the Original Series. Whenever I am feeling low, I’m much more likely to put on Journey Home.

Vgr had returned to earth we a vast of knowledge. Vger first took the lady then merged with the man before returning to deep space. Then what happens? Q happened. The best of both worlds, Q tries the enterprise into the furthest reaches of the universe into the arms of the Borg…thought provoking…

I enjoyed it. Definitely worthy of your ears and hours. I won’t spoil it with details, but Patrick Stewart in an alternate universe is probably still in prison today for killing one of the Beatles.

Careful, someone with encyclopedic knowledge of the Star Trek universe will argue that Voyager entered a wormhole or traveled back in time, or something about tachyons.

Much like alcoholism or a death in the family, our prime responsibility in these situations is to move toward acceptance.

Regarding the film “First Contact,” Patrick Stewart said it’s the best Star Trek film from the TNG series. At least, that’s what he said in his memoir, “Making It So.”

If you haven’t read it yet, consider getting the audiobook. He narrated it.

I mean, how much is there left to say about a fifty-year old movie that’s adored by a cult-like fandom? Yeah, it’s fun to think about but I have no dog in this fight.

In LGBTQ+ contexts “demi-” shows up in things like demisexual (sexual attraction only after a strong emotional bond). So, “non-demi” would just mean “not that.”

As for “semi-binary,” I am stumped. The same combination of terms could just as easily apply to Jay and Silent Bob.

Is there a hypothesis that “Vger” is the primordial Borg? This is the first I am hearing about it.
