In case you missed it: the FDA cleared the first blood test to help diagnose Alzheimer’s this week.

For too long, Americans have struggled to get a simple and accurate diagnosis. This action is a step toward earlier, less invasive detection, which can lead to better access to care and treatment.
First FDA-cleared Alzheimer's blood test could make diagnoses faster, more accurate
The first Alzheimer's blood test cleared by the Food And Drug Administration is poised to change the way doctors diagnose and treat the disease.

New work from Yasmine Kamen shows that differentiating oligodendrocytes are filled with the zymogen procaspase-3. This provides a specific marker for new oligodendrocytes and suggests a role for this pathway in oligodendrocyte fate decisions.

A third study showing the OL contribution to Aβ load. The team showed -30% Aβ plaque amount (in the same range as our study and another), upregulated myelin genes in oligodendrocytes (OLs), and many new findings that expand our knowledge on amyloidogenic processing in OLs. Big congrats to the team.
Contribution of amyloid deposition from oligodendrocytes in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease - Molecular Neurodegeneration
Background The accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides into insoluble plaques is an early pathological feature of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). BACE1 is the sole β-secretase for Aβ generation, making it a...
