The best thing that could happen to American politics is if people of all hues realized that the whole game being played against us is us being divided against each other.

It’s easier to pick people’s pockets if they’re distracted by culture wars.
There, my friends, is an urban-suburban-rural, multiracial coalition.

In comparison, most local/state police academies are 24+ weeks. What could possibly go wrong?
NBC News finds that:
-- ICE has shortened its training from 13 weeks to six.
-- Nearly half of recruits couldn’t pass an open-book written exam.
-- Recruits "are supposed to attest" they can pass the physical-fitness test, which requires them to run ... 6 mph.

Tariffs, for the “win”. Who would have thought?

What ICE is doing in Chicago (and elsewhere) is indefensible. An absolutely horrific abuse of power that cannot be tolerated if we want to retain our republic.
“YOU hit HER.”

CHICAGO - Trump’s ICE goons ram into a passing car after snatching someone, then brutally drag the female driver of the car they hit out of her car with guns drawn and arrest her too. (Her brother says she’s a citizen)

There was a time, not long ago, when the extrajudicial killing of foreign nationals, in international waters posing no immediate threat to any person or property, would have been an unthinkable violation, rightfully condemned by GOP 1.0 politicians (and everyone else).

This is yet another illustration of the destructive insanity of tariffs. Not only are they an incredibly regressive TAX on all Americans, but they also destroy the very manufacturing base they were supposed to “protect”.

We have to stop this madness.

Well, it appears we are finally getting those massive FEMA detention camps the QAnon/MAGA crowd swore Biden was secretly building.

FEMA to send states $608 million to build migrant detention centers
FEMA is starting a “detention support grant program” to cover the cost of states building temporary facilities, according to an agency announcement.

I’m old enough to remember when the GOP thought the government owning the means of production was actually a bad thing. Those were the days.

Dear MAGA isolationists: When we no longer consider the defense of freedom and liberty in the world to be a principled moral obligation, what makes you think that we will continue to apply that same obligation domestically?

NOT ONCE has Donald Trump said that Russia could end the war (it started) immediately if it wanted to.

But yet again, he insists that Ukraine - the victim of unprovoked invasion - can decide to end it.

Russia ends it by choice. Ukraine ends it by surrender and subjugation.

Every authoritarian throughout history has been “tough on crime.” It’s so much easier to exert unlawful power when you’re doing it in the name of restoring “peace.” Conveniently, the definitions of crime and peace are determined by the authoritarian.

Congratulations MAGA, the funds for that family vacation you were planning will now be going to the US Treasury instead. TARIFFS ARE TAXES that WE pay.

We officially accepted a $400 million Boeing 747 bribe from Qatar today, which will cost US taxpayers about $1 Billion to overhaul as AF1 (while not entering service any sooner than the new Boeing 747s we are currently outfitting), which will then become the property of Donald Trump on Jan 20, 2029.

This new version of capitalist conservatism sure does look a lot like socialist authoritarianism. Weird. It must just be me.

This is a friendly economic reminder that while a 145% import tax completely destroys supply chains, replacing it with a 30% tax simply guarantees that what you can get once again will now be more expensive. This would be called inflation.

Reminder: all of this economic chaos could be stopped by Congress passing one bill to take back the Constitutional power they gave away. ALL OF IT stops. Spineless cowards.

It’s hard to believe we’re the same country that made Jimmy Carter sell his peanut farm and forced GWB to put his income assets in a blind trust.

The Plan
1) Economic sneak attack on allies and partners.
2) Threaten to invade Danish territory and to annex Canada.
3) Sell out Ukraine to Putin, wreck NATO.
4) Permanent 10% tariff on former friends.
5) Surprise and hurt that nobody wants to help Trump find a face-saving exit

One of the historically significant realizations of the last few months has been that the Constitution and its derived power depends upon honorable people obeying norms. It was not designed to save us from the destructive proclivities of dishonorable people trampling over any norm to seize power.
