Musk’s status as a “special government employee” limits him to 130 days in the executive branch. However, despite working daily—documented by his own X posts—they claim he only works one day a week, effectively stretching his limit to 130 weeks. This needs to be brought to Congress—please share.

Liberals and conservatives both frame a lot of messages around “protecting kids,” so how can you tell who means it? It’s simple, ask yourself which one wants to invest in their well-being. Go with the people who are in favor of universal free school lunches and healthcare.

1) Trump just posted a truly unbelievable AI-generated video to drum up support for his proposed forced relocation of the Palestinians so he can build a resort. It is so bad that I had to check multiple times that it came from his real page. It includes highlights such as:

Praising Musk for saving the government money through mass firings is like praising someone for reaching their weight loss goal by cutting off their leg - technically there was a decrease, but that doesn’t make it beneficial or SANE.

I don’t understand most of the pro-DEI posts I see trying to explain what it is or spell it out. People aren’t against DEI because they don’t understand it. They’re against it because they don’t like diversity, equity, and inclusion, often proudly and vocally depending on who’s around.

So Trump just said if he’s saving the country he can’t be breaking the law, even if we ignore how that’s wrong… this isn’t a James Bond movie and US AID didn’t have a death ray, so like what does “saving your country” mean and why did it involve accidentally firing people taking care of our nukes?

Our team reviewed the entire DOGE website. Nothing they have identified constitutes evidence of fraud or corruption—both of which are crimes. Feel free to audit us. The funds were allotted by Congress, and OIGs regularly reviewed expenditures for fraud.

1/ I think one of the big issues with public misunderstanding of science is how experiments have traditionally been presented in classes - You do X and Y should happen and if Y doesn’t happen you messed up. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

1/ I was thinking about people embracing the unsubstantiated claims of finding fraud from Trump/Musk and thought, “Why would people just accept this with no proof? You wouldn’t do that for cancer treatments if you had cancer.”
February 15, 2025 at 8:18 PM
1) Trump and DOGE don’t understand any of the things they’re messing with and aren’t taking the time to understand. They don’t understand how US AID is key part of US international politics and think it’s just handouts, so they cut it. They don’t understand how indirect costs support research, so

I’ve never understood why presidential campaigns emphasize their budget - the power of the purse belongs to Congress. It kind of makes it seem like it was inevitable that some president would prey on our poor civic education and attempt to break the law as Trump has.
February 14, 2025 at 4:19 PM
This is a huge admission of DOGE having nothing to do with fraud. Spending according to how Congress allocated funds is not fraud - it’s the law.
Pressed to provide evidence of fraud that Musk has discovered, Leavitt waves around "screenshots of contracts" that go "against the president's policies" (going against Trump's policies is not fraud)

Here’s a simple metric - if you’ve ever gotten mad at someone for how they did their job (or agreed with someone who did) then that job wasn’t unskilled… otherwise you wouldn’t have been criticizing their lack of skill.

How is this not a constitutional crisis? The executive branch is openly breaking the law and impinging upon the powers given to Congress and the response from one of its two leaders is that the judiciary should let them!? Truly shameful times for our country.

Is the Trump administration pro-disease now? You can be anti-vaccine and still realize that cancer research and epidemiology are important. I’d ask what the plan was, but a lot of this is obviously a reflection of Trump and Musk assuming that if they don’t understand something it must be useless.

If you’d like to better understand indirect research costs (and why the cut from NIH was an attack rather than well-thought-out policy), I’d recommend this article.
Indirect research costs are complicated, wonky — and crucial to science
After two decades of work in biomedical research policy, there is no topic Carrie Wolinetz hates talking about more than indirect costs. She’s addressing them now because they are crucial.

Jeeze, I wonder why the most oligarchiest (I stand by this word) administration in recent times wants to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Even if you believe they’ve been spending recklessly, the solution probably shouldn’t be given the keys to the prisoners…
February 9, 2025 at 5:46 PM
1/ At first glance this all might sound reasonable, but there’s a huge flaw in the logic laid out here - the data they’re citing was gathered in the context of a system where government agencies, due to the laws passed by Congress, support research institutions through indirect costs.

This is what happens when someone who has no idea what they’re doing is given power they shouldn’t have and everyone just goes along with it. Last time Trump was surrounded by people who drew lines (now where I would, but they did) and this time he’s learned to the detriment of us all.
