At 3pm on 9 February 2025, booksellers Mahmoud and Ahmad Muna were accosted by undercover Israeli police. They were arrested at the Educational Bookshop, handcuffed and taken to prison. Over 250 books were confiscated.

when i was newly a katrina survivor the framing was “this is once in a lifetime moment” …there have now been million lifetimes loss to natural and manmade disasters.

what’s true is what’s always been: communities of care transform destruction into unending possibility and hope.

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

my thoughts on AI are intertwined to two essential truths:

-i don’t cite or trust an amaglation of unsourced claims.
-no thought, claim, truth, history can be told from a fixed, “neutral” point. an acknowledged author is a contract of trust between reader and writer.

This healthcare ceo is hard to talk about because how much death can you cause indirectly before you’re a murderer who got murdered? How do you convince yourself it doesn’t count if you kill people with policy instead of a gun? What do you have to believe about life and systems and human worthiness?

a very unserious thing that I am genuinely considering doing this winter is starting a Sims 4 YouTube channel, just for fun! I mainly want to do legacy challenges but maybe I’d do other kinds of content too, I truly do not know

reading non-fiction work has been so important for my imagination and own writing.

we must always understand that there is narrative in everything; to tell the truth about a life lived can offer abundance and expansion just as the infinities of life imagined.

using genAI to generate so-called “art” is not just not creating anything, it is like fucking grave robbing another person’s imagination!!!!

at this point, I have very little interest in conversations about AI and creativity, because if you’re not bothered by the massive harm that genAI causes to our climate/planet with every 100 word email it writes, it’s not at all shocking you’re also not pressed about casual plagiarizing.

One of my mutuals on threads phrased this beautifully “ people have mistaken having information at their fingertips for knowledge”

And technocracy and the poor job of listening means some people think that applies to everyone but them
I actually think one of the really interesting things going on with the intellectual whiplash around gen AI and fair use is a proposition that seems intuitive to the lay person but unintuitive to lawyers: the creation of more information leads to less knowledge, not more

one of my least favorite genres of social media posts at the moment is people who post screenshots of them using AI for extremely trivial shit in a way they clearly do daily acting like “look how incorrect AI is, isn’t it so absurd??” …. if you know it’s bad, what if you just…. didn’t use it 😶
