The pond is alive with wriggling tadpoles at the minute! I'm spending hours watching them swim about #amphibans

How did I not see this on the day!

Always welcome to join me on my Amphibian surveys, I'm spending most evenings out counting frogs, toads, and newts at the moment, and I wouldn't want to be doing anything else with my March nights.
Many stunning toads seen these last few weeks!

Not all of us indoors are equally enthused by Amphibian surveying season... Louie would rather stay under his blanket on the sofa

Hmm... I wonder if there are any signs indoors that I'll be out surveying #amphibians over this next week.
I've already been busy doing spawn counts across a bunch of parks locally- but I'll have a wonderful troop of volunteers with me this week!

The number of clumps of spawn is slowly rising in the pond 🐸. Meanwhile, the newts are having a whale of a time in there! The single male toad is a bit early for his pals, so evening qwarks galore at the mo. #amphibians @froglife.bsky.social @arc-trust.bsky.social

Did you know that the Cinnabar caterpillar is a striking black and yellow creature? These vibrant colors signal their toxicity to predators. Found munching on ragwort, they're nature's little chemists, deterring threats with their chemical defenses. #NatureFacts #ukwildlife

Like last year, our frogs have waited for the toads to arrive before spawning! I don't mind though, can't wait for more to appear! #spawnwatch #amphibian

Nothing better than finding a smooth newt larvae whilst dipping, it's dragonfly, damselfly and woodlice pals are also welcome- but I do have a bias! #ukwildlife

FROGS! 63 little hoppers all up to no good in the pond today at work! Very hard to actually focus on working though... #amphibians

Red admirals migrate from North Africa to Europe in spring and return in autumn, covering impressive distances. This individual from last year had seen better days, but still very colourful and quite agile with it's flight! #ukwildlife

39 frogs in the pond last night (That I could see). It's heating up! 4 females present and being kept on their toads by all the males!

Poppy seed heads are not just beautiful; they play a crucial role in nature. Each seed head can contain thousands of seeds, aiding in plant reproduction and serving as a food source for wildlife. We're lucky to have a few poppies come up each year in the back garden #ukwildlife

Many glorious crocuses up all over Ladywell Fields today, all deep purple or lilac in colour!

It's starting!
9 common frogs in the main pond tonight #amphibians
I've missed them causing chaos in there, so I'm glad they're back! #ukamphibans #ukwildlife

One of my favourite place to spot wildlife is Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park (nr North Greenwich station). Certainly worth a visit if you're in SE London. https://buff.ly/42tgo38

There is something lovely about wandering through a (primarily) beech forest. A bit chilly, and no one else around.

Did you know? Chicken of the woods is a unique mushroom known for its meaty texture and flavor, making it a great substitute for chicken. It typically grows on trees and is bright orange, making it easy to spot. There's a few trees in Lewisham's parks where you can regularly spot them!

The Bee orchid, Ophrys apifera. This unique flower mimics the appearance of a female bee to attract pollinators. #ukplants
