(American here) I HATE these giant trucks, they’re so dangerous because drivers can’t see anything low (like a child!) in front of them. You live in the suburbs and don’t work construction, why do you need this??

Well, kind of. American car companies had a ton of influence in making people car dependent based on how roads were planned. Then they sell you this very aspirational idea of a car, and people with cars want to be accommodated, and the cycle goes around and around.

People do it in Portland Oregon, but most of those people use a bike combined with public transit. Getting out of the city can be challenging without a car (compared to say New York where there are trains and plenty of bus operators that go all over the state).
