Tanden: You can actually have a government that improves services for people—one that makes it easier, not harder, to get the benefits you deserve.

Not a government that’s kind of run by a ketamine-addled person who is essentially just firing people in charge of the nuclear stockpile..

The prison guards in El Salvador must have a reason for hiding their identities: They are up to no good.

And the United States is complicit in their abuse.

I have the right to be outraged by a crime that didn't happen to me. A history I didn't live through. A subjugation that was not my own. All I can be is me & all I have is my empathy & the knowledge of what is wrong & right. Crimes against humanity are everyone's business. Pain is not a secret club

The fascism we are experiencing is an EMERGENCY. It needs to be responded to with lightening speed.

The courts are helping, but lightening speed is not their thing. They weren't designed for that.

So we all need to do more to respond. Get angry. Get organized. Get creative. Get vocal.

Germans who turned a blind eye to Hitler's fascism and atrocities came to be called "Good Germans."

I don't ever want to be known as a "Good American." I want to be known as an American who did good by standing up to fascism and atrocities.

In 1996, Congress created the "Alien Terrorist Removal Court" to provide expedited (and secrecy-protecting) procedures for the removal of non-citizen terrorism suspects based upon classified information.

And yet, even *that* statute, which has never been used, required pre-removal judicial review.

Senator Warnock‬ is standing up for people like my niece Sarah, who was let go from the CDC.

This is what leadership looks like.

State-sponsored kidnapping

The Trump admin took people by force, based on flimsy accusations & sent them not to their home country but to a notorious mega-prison in El Salvador—in defiance of a court order.

Holding people against their will through deception and threat is by definition—kidnapping.
