He doesn't seems to be a bad person, he tries his best. It's just success and recognition rain on him from everywhere all of the sudden and at once and it's irritating. But the thing is what he barely handle with it, wich makes him think too fast abt too many things and commit bad decisions

The scene in s1 when he says what he doesn't care anymore what councillors think about him kinda approve it

Maybe his sence of self-esteem just mixing with his arrogance. I mean at the begining i can believe what he tried his best to please everyone around to become someone and not screw up anymore but during series he realises how much he reached and how influential he become.
