I see the case of balcony solar a bit differently. I think that it stems from building inhabitants' inability to agree collectively on shared rooftop solar production investments. Therefore, people living there go for their own systems. Or it may not be social problem but a regulatory problem.

I agree that these are the main questions at the moment, these are well formulated. Perhaps we see a division of material needs between different segments soon.

Infrastructurally and technically yes, but not sure if it is so on the commercial level, at least I am not aware of many cases where such solutions have been proposed and done on the neighborhood level.

If you have to think of something positive, at least Japan is strong in heat pump manufacturing. But yes, the size of investment Japan has put into hydrogen is huge. linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii...

Do you have the source for this? I thought the RCP8.5 was some kind of an extreme case just built for modelling purposes but this shows something else.

Smart meter rollout in Germany would give a strong boost for HEMS market also in other parts of Europe as more companies would aim for the bigger pie.
