Day 8 of Avian August: ʻalalā or Hawaiian Crow

Day 6 of Avian August: ʻApapane, another species of nectar feeder bird, they are known for their vibrant, fast paced songs!

Avian August day 5: The Pueo or Short Horned Owl: It is one of only 2 species of Owls native to Hawaii.

Decided to try a different art style for this one!

Just squeezing it under the finish line for Avian August Day 4: The ʻAlae keʻokeʻo or Hawaiin Coot. A wetland native bird they are used as an important indicator of enviornmental health, and are notable for the males bright red frontal shield and their huge segmented feet.

For Day 3 of Avian August: The Hawaiʻi ʻakepa! Another species of finch like day 1, they are obligate cavity nesters and need to find natural tree cavities to nest

For day 2 of Avian August: The Laysan Albatross! They can live up to 60 years and occupy all of the Northern Pacific, particularly Hawaii.

For Day 1: The 'I'iwi! They are native to Hawaii and feed off nectar but are being threatened by habitat loss and the death of the 'Ōhi'a tree due to disease.

The Ithaca Museum of the Earth is under threat of being closed! This place has been helping educate folx for 20 years and is globally lauded for its work; anything people can donate would be amazing and spread the word! They also make amazing plushies!
