Marcus Aurelius didn't say this. This is too often misattributed to him.

Er ærlig talt forbauset over hvor gode og holdbare earbudsan deres er, selv til tross hyppig og røff bruk. Har hatt Jabra Elite 7 i over 3 år med nesten daglig bruk og dem fungerer fortsatt helt fint. Leit å høre at det selskapet går under

someone is definitely going to repost this as a screenshot with the caption "are climate activists okay??" with the joke flying over their heads much like your corpse in a few decades

Seems like the petition is well on its way to make it given the current pace of signatures. I'm not even an EU citizen but I'm still super stoked that this one may actually go through
May 16, 2025 at 11:24 AM
The petition says that it only needs to meet the minimum thresholds in at least 7 countries in addition to the requirement of 1 mill signatures. Currently 8 countries are fulfilling that requirement. But yeah, would still be nice to get other countries above their threshold.

I'm not too familiar on how these EU citizens' petition usually turn out but I feel like french people deserve an award for making up over HALF the signatures from their country

Moreover, and perhaps more importantly, all collected data in the petition is subject to GDPR: "Likewise, the initiative organisers and the Member Statesʼ authorities are subject to the rules regarding the processing of personal data set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPRʼ)."

I really enjoyed this lecture by Jeroen. Some much needed perspectives in the geoengineering discourse as it stands right now. I'm also pretty intrigued by the book but the price tag is too much at the moment. Hopefully I'll find it marked down at some point.

Hadde gjerne lånt deg min kopi men det tar nok en stund å komme frem til Oslo fra Finnmark.. Kanskje @mbergnordlie.bsky.social har enda et par kopier liggandes?

Conveniently leaving out the fact that all of these tech-reliant fixes have their own risks and adverse side-effects, let alone need to be deployed at unrealistically large scales to even work. Seems like they may actually botch our "terraforming" more than they would reverse it.

I'm glad I could help out 😄 That quote seemed incredibly familiar but slightly off from how I remember reading it from Epictetus, which prompted me to look into it.

From Enchiridion 5 (Oldfather): "[...] It is the part of an uneducated person to blame others where he himself fares ill; to blame himself is the part of one whose education has begun; to blame neither another nor his own self is the part of one whose education is already complete."
April 30, 2025 at 12:17 PM
I couldn't find that quote in the attributed text in the discourses. The closest one I could find is in Enchiridion 5 and that particular quote seems to be considered a mistranslation of that sentence that has spread around quite a lot online.

Yeah I can personally accept that we explore the possiblities of extraordinary things that can be done to slow down, halt or even reverse the effects of climate change, but it is profoundly despairing that we have come to the point where we have to consider them at all.
April 29, 2025 at 6:24 PM
The act of stopping global-scale SRM (SAI/MCB) in the middle of deployment is actually the part that we know is incredibly dangerous and risky. The temperature would rapidly bounce back to its original projected level and lead to a period with a catastrophicly unstable climate and weather.
