We might like Bluesky because there is no evil algorithm BUT unlike over on Mastodon where it is part of the culture, folks here often don’t think to boost posts they like. Remember that if there is no algorithm, then we all benefit from others sharing good stuff. Like & REPOST good stuff, people!

I just listened to an excellent presentation on comics & infrastructure by Dr Giada Peterle, part of online talks organised by @drdomdavies.bsky.social within @ttinfranetwork.bsky.social. Such a creative, inspiring & generous scholar! (Her drawings on my book from gh.copernicus.org/articles/80/...)

Walking the paths of heroes: remembering a group of Black American soldiers sent so young into battle in WW2, & who behaved with extraordinary valour in the face of Nazi fire, in Sommocolonia 🇮🇹.
Looking back to a time when it was clear that citizens of the United States fought against fascism. #WW2

A lovely visual essay by @theoatmeal.bsky.social on why AI art feels so horribly soulless. Do read it all!

A bag made for a special colleague, now gifted, recycling two conference tote bags, assorted scraps & fabric printed with maps from the Bibliothèque de Genève map collection (Map of Geneva by Micheli du Crest, 18thC).

Need more women in tech? Hell yes, because it might avoid such rubbish as this inability to let people say no. No means no, always, in all circumstances.
(Also, why does my public university force us use big tech software? Aargh.)

I think that post-Twitter we are all fragmented into various places. LinkedIn is a boasty CV, but useful for some work things, Bsky is a mix but -unlike on Mastodon where it’s part of the vibe- few people here realize that there isn’t an algorithm & relies on folks individually boosting good stuff.🫤

I’m loving planning a new “Introduction to geography” class, giving me an excuse to wander through the many new neighbourhoods & building sites across the city & beyond, planning a long field exploration transect-walk for the students, and recording fieldguide podcasts for them.

Fun with watercolours on a Saturday morning. Mental recharge for the start of our teaching term on Monday, meeting students in four very different courses over the course of one week.
