Vetted figures from reliable sources have it as 2,000, and I suspect it's probably twice that. I can't imagine that it is anywhere near 20K. Whatever it is, though, the regime has pressed the accelerator where the only off ramp is "winning" or its own total destruction. apnews.com/live/iran-pr...

I see every new piece of art or fiction as a small miracle. We live in a society where most people’s time is eaten up just trying to survive and pay the bills. We are told art has little value. Yet artists persevere and still find ways to create. That’s incredible.

Just stopped at the Natchez Trace Parkway National Park. The ranger at the station was alone because 14 of her colleagues were fired today! That will leave almost no one to manage the park. She was so sad and frustrated. I am angry and disgusted!

One of the largest universal basic income experiments took place in India in 2011-12. Nine entire villages got the UBI each month for 1.5 years; 6,000 adults and kids. The results included a 9x increase in eating fresh vegetables, and the prices went down, not up.

![Although there were some changes in the consumption of different food items in the control village, they were modest compared with what happened in the basic income village, where there was huge relative and absolute expansion in the consumption of more nutritious items, most notably pulses and lentils (up by over 1,000 per cent, or from 0.3 kilos per family to 3.3 kilos) and fresh vegetables (up 888 per cent, or from 0.6 kilos to 5.5 kilos). These figures were far greater than what occurred in the control village.
The increase in consumption of fish and meat, expressed in Rupee cost, was over 500 per cent, or from Rs.20.6 to Rs.135. We will also come back to that later. There was also an increase of over 460 per cent in the consumption of eggs, and a 213 per cent increase in the consumption of wheat.
These substantial shifts could be the outcome of one or more of three changes – more purchased from the ration shop, more purchased from local markets or more produced on village farms. Clearly, the increased purchases were unlikely to come from the ration shops. But the first key point is that the basic income was associated with an improvement in the diet of most people.
One scheduled caste woman, Bhavarsingh, who described herself as mainly a wage labourer, summed up what a number of others also said:

Now we eat roti with sabji [vegetable dish].
