Love Guernsey and La Societe Guernesiaise - trying to protect its environment, keen birdwatcher, trainee bird ringer, and all things to do with natural history.
2/2 The fungus I assume will absorb nutrients from the host plant. Some plants are more vulnerable than others - plum and cherry family. Some plants are much more resistant - holly and liquid amber being two examples.

1/2 I believe Honey Fungus attacks the roots of healthy plants in such a way that they cannot draw up water and the plant eventually dies from thirst. A plant affected by the fungus has dry shrivelled leaves - just as if there were drought conditions.

Friends round for supper - late night + ringing first thing this morning = no moth trap out.😕 Forecast isn't good either.

Snap! I had one in my trap last night in Guernsey. Possibly only 2nd record and new for my garden. I guess yours was just blown a bit further! #mothsmatter #teammoth

Another trap not too far away had, Brindled Green but I couldn't see any green at all on these two specimens. 🙂

It's a great video - very insightful. Also thanks for earlier video ahead of the Womens Rugby World Cup - I haven't watched women's rugby up until now but you convinced me to give it a go and pleased that I did. 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I was told that schools in the East End of London registered children of some families as 'gone hopping' - an annual event.

As a keen ornithologist, I wish I had a fraction of your knowledge about birds! I'm just happy that I still want to keep on finding out. 😂

If it's any help this is Guernsey Fleabane, taken in Guernsey in mid-August. The seed heads are fluffy. 🙂 It grows up to about 30cm.

That would be great. Andy and helpers have done a fair bit of moth trapping on the cliffs with some excellent results so far. 🙂

Haven't put out my trap for nearly a week in Guernsey. Fingers crossed for tomorrw night when the wind drops. We're doing our Family Day event on Sunday - thinking back to last year when you were over and we had a Death's Head hawk moth. @andym105.bsky.social naturally made the most of it!

We had a pale-phase Common Buzzard reported as a possible Bonelli's Eagle off Sark this week. If only...! 😀
