Love Guernsey and La Societe Guernesiaise - trying to protect its environment, keen birdwatcher, trainee bird ringer, and all things to do with natural history.
Some moths from last night, La Moye, Vale, Guernsey. Second Red Underwing of the year, Flame Brocade (2) new for year and a Feathered Ranunculus. Quite breezy and definitely chilly when i went to empty the trap this morning. #mothsmatter #teammoth

@mothiduk.bsky.social I struggle with these - are they both Sombre Brocade? VC113 Guernsey. If so they'll be 2nd and 3rd records for my garden. First one was earlier in the month. thanks.

Sallow, Gem and Large Ranunculus from last night's trap VA 113, Guernsey. All NFG. 246/35. Also a late-season Dingy footman. #mothsmatter #teammoth

@mothiduk.bsky.social Sombre Brocade? It is thought to be resident in Guernsey now.

@mothiduk.bsky.social Can you confirm diasemiopsis rambuliaris from the photo? VC113 Guernsey. Rare immigrant here. Thanks. In the trap this morning.

Nearly missed the Red Underwing as it was lurking near the trap this morning, all 33mm of it. At the other extreme, Calybites Phasianipenella at around 5mm. La Moye, Vale Guernsey. #mothsmatter #teammoth

VC113 Guernsey - BINGO! Striped Hawk-moth, two, new for garden and pristine. Also Clifden Nonpareil - very please to see that as I had none last year. They are flighty - coudn't get a shot of the underwing. Scarce-bordered Straw NFG I think and a 4-spotted Footman. Awaiting ID on a couple. 237/52 😊

@mothiduk.bsky.social Omoscopa sp? in the first 2 photos. Cydia ulicetana in the third? Guernsey, coastal. Thanks.

@mothiduk.bsky.social Help, please. Pediasia contaminella (sticheli? - it is dark) or Pediasia aridella? Or something else... The second moth is worn but ObsID suggests Zeirphera isertana. I'm not at all sure. Thanks. VC 113 Guernsey, coastal.

Dusky Scalloped Oak trapped on Corbiere cliffs a couple of nights ago with @andym105.bsky.social
I've been wanting to see this Guernsey speciality for a very long time, but it only lives on the south coast cliffs in small numbers and so is hard to find.
August 28, 2025 at 7:04 PM
@mothiduk.bsky.social Not at all familiar with theese from last night in Guernsey. ObsID came up with Neofaculta erictella, and Small Marbled. I think the 3rd one is A. selasella rather than A. tristis?

Canary-shouldered Thorn and Dusky Thorn from Saturday night's trap. #Guernsey #mothsmatter #teammoth

@mothiduk.bsky.social New to me and not common in VC113, Guernsey. Can you confirm or correct Ancylosis oblitella 10mm and Agriphila inquinqatella 10.5mm with shiny cilia, please? #teammoth #mothsmatter

VC113 #Guernsey 21st August. Bordered Straw, Palpita vitrealis - those wings are translucent, Spectacle - I'm reasonably confident NFG and not common in the island unlike Dark spectacle, and possibly Cydia splendana. 81/36 much lower count with northerly winds. #teammoth #mothsmatter
August 22, 2025 at 9:18 AM
@mothiduk.bsky.social Cydia sp. might it be splendana? There are so many similar ones I'm going cross-eyed looking at the field guide! VC113 Guernsey 21st August.

VC 113 Guernsey 270/89 last night. NFG included Dewick's Plusia and Channel Island Pug. Hopefully (awaiting confirmation) Dialectica scalariella and Povolnya leucopenella. Heaven help me - micros are growing on me! #teammoth #mothsmatter

@mothiduk.bsky.social VC113 Guernsey would you confirm/correct Channel Island Pug, Dialectica scatialrella (very few if any island records), Povolnya leucopenella, Phycitodes maritima/saxicola? Thanks.

@exmoor.bsky.social Very shocked and sad to see the news about the coach crash near Wheddon Cross. Hoping that the outcome isn't too awful. 🙏
