This is a good article, worth reading.

Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?

The anti-smoking playbook is worth studying and learning from, and is completely applicable to oversized cars.

Getting new details on this now:

As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.

Teen Vogue was my first major internship in media. My first national print byline. The place I learned to take up space as a woman in a newsroom.

To lose it is to lose a birthplace for women in journalism.

The retrenchment is here: As more news outlets and media companies roll back commitments to diversity efforts, including reporting on stories about traditionally marginalized groups, the avenues for reporters who specialize in such coverage grow increasingly limited. www.thewrap.com/nbc-news-div...

Her, pausing mid-hug to look at me quizzically: "More than sunscreen???"

The government shutdown puts SNAP + food stamp benefits at risk.

A 2023 study found nearly 26% of active-duty service members are considered food insecure, and about 15% rely on food stamps or food banks to help support their families.

A reminder (from my 2019 @theatlantic.com reporting) that as military families go without pay this shutdown, many of them are single-paycheck households relying on the servicemember's income because the spouses have been pushed out of the workforce.
