A scoop you may have missed from me for @ms.now during this crazy news week:

Congressional Dems are mounting a long-shot bid to try to overturn the abortion ban the VA quietly implemented last month.

A Senate vote could come as early as this week 🗳️
Democrats mount a long-shot legislative bid to overturn the VA’s new abortion ban
The effort is unlikely to succeed, but Democrats say it would force Republicans to go on the record about abortion in the most dire circumstances.

Black women started 2025 with an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. They ended it at 7.3 percent — the highest rate in four years. Black women’s unemployment is now equivalent to White women’s rate during the bleakest moments of the Great Recession.

I turn 34 in two weeks, and we are having a low-key birthday party at our house.

About half the attendees are new-ish friends because we are military and we move all the time.

What are some fun, low-pressure themes, games, or icebreakers? (also we are doing this on Super Bowl Sunday)

5 million-plus kindergartners now live in counties where schools don’t have “herd immunity” for measles, Washington Post reporters found.

WaPo also built a tool to look up your own county.

Millions of middle-class Americans who have ACA health plans are facing soaring premiums in 2026 — and tough coverage choices after the new rates kick in Jan. 1. And it often falls to women to figure out a family's insurance puzzle.

Among the housing challenges faced by military families:

- Ongoing struggles with mold
- Chipping, aging lead paint
- Windows being sealed shut (to protect against aforementioned paint, which then prevents ventilation + reduces the ability to escape a fire)
