It occurs to me that a substantial flaw in the American political system is the absence of a real leader of the opposition. In parliamentary systems the leader of the opposition party provides someone for opposition to coalesce around. The USA needs a leader of the opposition and there isn’t one.

Mark Carney went to Harvard and Oxford and has a doctorate in economics from Oxford. Chrystia Freeland went to Harvard and Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship and has a masters in Slavonic studies. If we could get Carney as prime minister and Freeland as foreign minister we would be in pretty good shape.
