A post-doc at Pasteur sent me this AF prediction of 2RefZ/RBM/2FtsZ/2GTP

Don't work on RefZ now, but pretty cool to see the predicted RefZ-FtsZ interface matches what we inferred from genetics

Looks like R116/E117 interact with the GTP bound to FtsZ. Those R "fingers" are oft seen in Z modulators

One thing most of non applied people don't understand about the process of discovery is that a scientist might work obsessively on a problem for wks, months, even yrs (!) just for the *chance* it might go somewhere. We spend a lot of time in the dark, uncertain where we're going. Not unlike moles

Work right next door & this is the 1st I've heard about his case - not in school or town paper. This is a dishonorable way to treat another human being.

Original if you mean Freese pHd mops w/NaOH and Glutamate with KOH. If you mean Branda - no one knows 😭 does not say. wouldn't say there was huge difference any combo. Slight. Less ridges with Na included in anything - but slight and would need repeating

And the aggregate - accumulates when higher PA & higher Fe3+. Nondiffusable aggregate, requires strong base to re-solubilize. Pigment appears more pink to eye. Hard to imagine context this form would accumulate much in nature.

I think there are two kinds of pulcherrimin. Low density/lower Fe3+ bound (diffusible, color twd reddish orange) - goes soluble with mild basic pH>7.5

Is NIGMS going to reissue the R35 mechanism? It expired for established/NI after May 2025 & there doesn't seem to be a (?) new call

After making all these flavors of MSgg, I appreciate why people don't make like 10 iterations of a minimal medium just to see what happens. Pouring all the plates is a pain in the ass. Still, I have like 50 more things I want to test. I need a minion.

I messed up the MOPS/KOH, Glutamate/NaOH plates by adding too much Mg (4 mM instead of 2 mM) so not showing those
