If you're not following Heather Cox Richardson, you should. She frames current events in relevant historical context. There is little drama, but there's room for some humor. An excerpt from a recent 'Politics Chat:'

I find myself thinking of this scene from "Notorious."

"We are protected by the enormity of your stupidity, for a time."

So much time and taxpayer money wasted ... and all to make themselves look like fools.

This will make a great short play someday, though. The script is already written.

He has a serious issue with leggings.
Wikipedia excerpt:
"In 2015, on the TV show 'Good Morning America,'[22] Partridge revealed that his views on women's leggings influenced his wife to discard it from her wardrobe.[23][24]"

"True, it was a small piece."

Ha. It's MAGAs who are handed mass-produced signs. Trump is projecting again.
My sign:

The contrast between mass-produced and distributed MAGA signs, and what you see at a No Kings rally, is so stark that I went with a somewhat meta poster.

Let's add credit where it's due. Those are the final lines from current NYTimes coverage.

"Joining the No Kings protest, he said, made him feel less alone.

“For me to come out, a normal, small person like me, and see all of this, it’s really great,” he said."

One of these things is not like the others ...
October 18, 2025 at 6:49 PM
This is my sign. It's meta, but think of all of those identical MAGA signs that attendees are given to hold up. I loved seeing the variety and creativity at the June No Kings rally, and I'm sure I'll see more of the same.

I also like that, if you omit the final comma, the sentiment still holds.

I don't have an inflatable frog costume but I'm dusting off a costume from years ago that seems apt*. If you have anything that's humorous and could be seen as topical, go for it! It's almost Halloween anyway.

*Here's a photo of the original. I had made a rough copy.

The New York Times Spelling Bee pangram today is apt.

I don't often wish I were good at Photoshop, but this does seem to suggest possibilities.

I always check the Downballot's special elections Big Board. The win is nice. The increase in margin is what matters.

(1/2) I'm starting to think of the NYC Dem mayoral primary differently.

There was strong support for Mamdani, true. But the other side of ranked-choice voting was that the sentiment was "Anyone but Cuomo." Yes, he came in 2nd in 1st-place votes, but he came in 5th when ranking is disregarded.

What I would give to be able to sleep this soundly ...

But I am one of several people who have made it possible for Mama cat, a cancer survivor and former street stray, to do so.
And that's something.

My Mama cat is a cancer survivor. She had a tumor removed in the spring of 2022. We didn't opt for chemo or extreme measures because cats don't have that many years and quality of life was the bigger concern. Here she is, as of yesterday.
I wish you all the best.
