Why would it take 20 years to deport someone? This looks like an edge case, which must be considered in the final policies but should be rare.

A few years ago my neighbourhood in London UK moved to max 20m/h (32km/h). What a difference. Car drivers are more polite to pedestrians and I feel safer walking around.

I think once they’ve read it, they won’t like it. Lots of progressive ideas. Some worrying ideas too.

Which ones concern you? I agree with some of the changes (e.g., moving refugees to work and study visas). I’d like more information about the return hubs. I look forward to watching this go through parliament and getting more detail.

Maybe she can offer you a job as Comms manager

Love your writing Bear but some clarification needed.

Asylum seekers will NOT have assets seized on arrival.

People with confirmed Refugee Status will be encouraged to move to work and study visas and not need to wait 20 years.

I wonder if it’s because Trump has normalised a leader announcing new laws and people think we do that here too. The reaction to a white paper by some people is quite unhinged.

And encouraging refugees to move to work and study visas.

Refugees will be encouraged to move to a work or study visa as soon as possible.

I have a lot of empathy for refugees. There are a lot of ideas - some good (e.g., moving refugees to work or education visas as soon as possible). Which ones do you disagree with?

Taxes will almost certainly have to go up to pay for this “success”

Agree - incredible amount of detail. I can see some questions on some of the ideas (it’s only a white paper that will go through amendments so plenty of time for that). The blanket rubbishing is sinister, tiresome and dangerous.

Feel the same. My Labour council is doing a good job. It has nothing to do with Starmer.

So true - not sure if I should just block some of these time wasters (is it organised?). No one is discussing the policies. I read all of it and there are some good ideas such as letting refugees move to work and study visas.

Which part do you think is cruel? There are some good ideas such as moving refugees to work and study visas.

That is not true.

The incentive will be for refugees to move onto work or study visas, if possible. Great idea!

Thanks for sharing the immigration statement. Some very good ideas. Which part are people objecting to?
November 18, 2025 at 9:45 AM
No idea. I don’t have a car.

View from the very apolitical mid-thirties guys in my office today - I guess you need to have controls, but you can’t help feeling sorry for the migrants and don’t we need some of them anyway?

Thank you Warren for pulling this together and I agree that we should talk about the policies calmly. Some of the aggression (and lies) towards Labour is really ridiculous. What’s wrong with people?
