The Labour MP Blair McDougall also spoke, particularly highlighting the plight of the Uyghur people, and saying if China wants to open an embassy here, they must close down the camps in Xinjiang.

They also argued it was wrong to trample local planning decisions (Tower Hamlets rejected the previous planning application, but the Government has called it in and the decision now rests with Angela Rayner), and that this was not the right place for an embassy.

The protest was attended by 1000s people, some being bussed in from the north of England, demonstrating for numerous reasons, and was attended by high-profile MPs.

Last week, on Saturday the 8th, I attended the protest outside the Royal Mint in east central London, against the re-proposed Chinese Embassy on the site.
