Judge Chris Brook
@judgechrisbrook.bsky.social
North Carolina attorney and law professor. Former Judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Double Tar Heel. Georgia born, Carolina raised.
When I was running to keep my seat on the Court of Appeals in 2020, Governor Hunt was incredibly generous with his time and wisdom. And he had so many great stories from his lifetime of service! Rest in peace, Governor Hunt.

Fantastic early birthday treat to celebrate at the Governor’s holiday party. Least surprising moment of the evening? Woman exclaiming to Moira “what a WONDERFUL dress!”

Happy holidays to us all!

Great to catch up with former colleagues—and get more material for my 2051 self-published novel—at the Court of Appeals holiday dinner. Happy holidays!!!

Wonderful to be at NC Central Law for a North Carolina Advocates for Justice panel on working today as a civil rights attorney—um, we had plenty to discuss. Extra treat: being on a panel full of old friends, including my extraordinary new law partner Robyn Sanders.

Chief Justice Cheri Beasley led our courts with wisdom and courage through a pandemic, the Black Lives Matters protests, and myriad technological challenges. The North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society (and many friends!) rightly honored her and her leadership earlier this week.

Wonderful to present on Evidentiary Rules and Appellate Preservation with my friend Erik Zimmerman at the @legalaidnc Summit. It’s an important moment to support the essential work of Legal Aid. If you would like to join us, please check out legalaidnc.org.

Quality family time! (Not pictured: Quinn and me passed out on the couch for Miami v. FSU.)

It is important each and every year to reflect on our Constitution and the meaning of “We the People.” Even more so this #ConstitutionDay with Central law students, when so many values we hold dear are being debated anew.

One of the highlights of 2020 for Moira & me was campaigning w/ (the incomparable) Chief Justice Cheri Beasley & (then House member, now Senate Dem Leader, always Carolina Law buddy) @friendsforbatch.bsky.social. Great to be back w/ them again five years on, still fighting for a more just #NC.

Here we go with another North Carolina Central School of Law semester of Constitutional Law! Nothing has changed since last year, right?

Great talking with my old friend @louierivers3.bsky.social (and friends) about his campaign for Chapel Hill Town Council (and, of course, our shared love for the Naked Gun franchise)!

Thinking of my North Carolina Central University School of Law students and everyone else taking the bar exam this week (including my little brother down in South Carolina). Y’all got this!
