Who won?

My most recent waste of time like that was getting llama3 to write bizarre Dora the Explorer fan fiction after her cameo on South Park a couple weeks ago.

Mine goes back into railroads back into the 1800s at least. But I can tell just by being somewhat politically active in my adoptive home state of Iowa for most of the last 25 years that most notions of farming (including my own before) are WAY off.

I wish that was the explanation.

So tl;dr - I have been lucky to come out of those (and other) employment situations better off. And with age I don't freak out as much with uncertainty. But I would be a lying SOB if I didn't say I'm always worried about the other shoe to drop.

My first big-boy IT job was at a large green tractor company as a contractor. A few months after 9/11 (yes I'm old) they cut loose all contractors, regardless of performance or importance. I ended up going back to college, swearing to never work for a huge company again. :)

That was the worst weekend of my life. I had a 2 year-old and a newborn at home and nothing was certain with respect to the economy, etc. I vividly remember holding back tears taking my daughter trick-or-treating.

I hope you're right. I have Mormon family who acknowledge how awful Trump is, but "my family votes republican" even still.

I worry a lot of folks would welcome the apocalypse before righting the ship or acknowledging they're wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

I finally did it last year. I wish I had 30 years ago. The only way I'll regret it is if RFK takes my meds away.

Yep. And here in the US the sheep wear hats promoting the Wolves.

Very much in the same boat - all of my friends love it and I lose cool points for not ever seeing it.

Good point. My "X" is often things about how Windows deals with certificates, certificate statuses, etc. Definitely not my category 1s, but things that are good to know.

But if a random relative asks, I have been linux-only since 1997, or I don't know what a computer is at all. :)

I think that quit being a flex longer ago than I'd like to admit. So here I am, on break, installing a Win11 VM of my own volition. To learn.

Next up will be DOS + DESQview :)
