"If a visual is just decorative, no need to provide alt text." That's a line from a composition textbook. What do you think? Is it justified?

No. He's compared vaccines to the Holocaust ffs. His whole "MAHA" line is largely blaming people for their health issues while also taking away drugs like antidepressants (hey, just exercise!). Why talk mostly to other grifters for this story??

RFK Jr. wants to tackle chronic disease. Despite controversial views on vaccines, his focus on healthy food and taking on special interests may find broad support — and face political headwinds.

We have to remember that, traditionally, an incoming administration awards the various constituencies that got it elected with some sort of representation.

So the tech bros get Elon, anti-vax freaks get RFK Jr, dog killers get Noem, white nationalists get Hegseth, pedophiles get Gaetz...

I last had an egg on February 26, 2020. I had no idea what they were going for until last week.

Apparently, the going rate is this country's democracy.

I've always loved dramatic weather--thunderstorms, blizzards. I've never thought of wind by itself as qualifying. But standing in my kitchen, looking out the window, and watching the wind whip the trees around in my front yard, I realize I need to add it to the list.

It's sort of mesmerizing.

Wonderful book. Highly recommended if you're disabled or live in a world with people who are, especially if you're in academia.

"Coyote killing contests in NV represent a concerning trend that contradicts the principles of ethical wildlife management and conservation. They not only harm ecosystems and promote violence against animals but also risk the state’s reputation as a leader in environmental stewardship."
A case against coyote killing contests in Nevada  • Nevada Current
The first time I saw a coyote was at Pyramid Lake. It was dawn and the sun was peeking out – lighting up a mother coyote and her two pups. The family was slowly trodding down the shoreline. I was awes...

Academics: If you had an article behind a paywall, and a first-year writing student emailed you to ask for a free copy of it, how would you respond?

(I plan to share the answers with my students.)

Can we reconsider the "heartwarming" posts about people without disabilities reaching out to those of us with disabilities?

If someone goes to prom with a disabled person, or sits at lunch with one, or uses what they learned in an ASL class to greet a Deaf person, they're not heroes. (1/2)

Thought I'd share this picture of my son's dog, Tiber, from a walk one morning. It's probably the first of many. He brightens our days. I hope he can do the same for others.

I saw a post asking how Democrats could reach white men. As a middle-aged straight cis white man who voted for Harris, you'd think I'd have a good answer for that.

But in fact, I have great trouble understanding the thinking of many people who look like me.

When I left Florida because DeSantis restricted the ability of professors to do their jobs, I expressed a great deal of respect for my colleagues who stayed and did important work.

Now I'm in the same position they are--along with faculty throughout the U.S.
