Amazing admission that she can’t defend holding right wing positions without attaching herself to a religion. Carl Sagan had some thoughts on that.

I used to think of non-denom as default liberal, doctrine-minimal communities. It’s how they seem to like being seen. As a big tent. Padding your diversity statement with ‘personalities’ and ‘ages’ really highlights the absence of ‘genders’ and ‘sexual orientations’ though.

Back on the church’s veiled dogmatism, they would like you to know that a proper Christian must give up their will to Jesus… as interpreted by the ministry…

As a lighter aside, the way they frame Jesus’ blood is hilarious ridiculous. Like they’re selling a product.

This bit explaining the mechanism of salvation is subtextually alarming. By stating the penalty for sin is death, it’s prescribing punishment in THIS life, rather than an afterlife, and exempting Christians from judgement of their actions.

I know this is one of the big things that separates Protestant doctrine from Catholic, but I still think it’s wild to explicitly state that belief in Jesus is more important than doing good…
