It does raise the question of why it isn't in OED. Perhaps because its morphology is so transparent?

Wikipedia says the term was adopted by NASA in 2001 and in 2006 the “Heliophysics Science Division” was formed.

Now it’s not in the OED as a headword although interestingly the entry for the adjective “Alfvenic” has a citation of a journal called Heliophysics so the word literally does appear :-)
