Or IOW, if this valuation is right, Apple's top-end bug-bounty for top-tier security research, despite their popular image as being generous, is still about an order of magnitude below than the offensive market

So this story is super duper interesting for a whole ton of reasons, but one big one is its a very rare glimpse into the private valuation of high-end exploits held by major defense contractors

Bluesky is a fairly angry place. My feed isn’t terrible (with a lot of work!) but still angrier than any other SM I engage with.

And God forbid I go into explore to find something! It’s all fascism and boycotts and the world is ending or mindless drivel.

Wow… researchers from Stanford demonstrated they could decode the brain’s inner monologue (private, non verbalized thoughts articulated as words) with 74% accuracy. That’s a big deal. Sci-fi future, here we come for better or worse.

This is cool, a professor in MD has developed a technique to treat wood and make it twice as strong as steel but 1/10th the weight. They’re preparing to manufacture it now: techcrunch.com/2025/05/12/i...

The material has 50% more tensile strength than steel with a strength-to-weight ratio that’s ten-times better.

Batteries containing their own cellular transmitters? Gee, what could be wrong with that. Crazy stuff in this article, would like it more if it had more specifics (the product/vendor name, some non anonymous quotes). But strikes me as plausible. www.msn.com/en-us/news/w...

Wow, this is super interesting. Not the last time we will see the living use AI to bring back a simulation of the dead. Novel application here, many others to come.
An AI avatar of a man who was killed in a road rage incident addressed a court and the man who killed him. First time the AI avatar of a victim—in this case, a dead man—has ever addressed a court. We spoke to the sister who made it. The judge said they loved it www.404media.co/i-loved-that...

One downside of the Twitter Elon hijacking and resulting exodus to Bluesky is you have two platforms functioning like echo chambers.

That has empowered people to take more extreme positions and be praised for it and vocalize hostility towards those who think differently.

Not a good trend IMHO.

I had some headshots done and don’t love them. What’s the best AI tool (preferably free) for tweaking images?

It’s too bad but I can’t really get on Bluesky anymore. Despite my attempts to focus on tech/Vc/founder/friends it’s still filled with non stop, Sky is falling, political rants.

Yes, there are some abuses happening. Bad things happened last administration too. This will pass. Ranting isn’t helpful

This is the first (public) example I’ve seen where traditional advanced security engineering was applied to an LLM. It’s about time!

I don’t know why LLMs exist in a vacuum and other fields are always sidelined. Security, QA, rules/oncologies, etc. It doesn’t need to be all or nothing, hybrid FTW

Just booked a back and forth to SF. Leaving on a 6AM, landing at 9:30AM. Then flying home the same day at 9:30PM, landing the following morning.

That’s gonna be a LONG day. Curious if I can still go for 31 hours straight with a couple of airplane naps, hope so! 🙏🏻

An interesting aspect to the dysfunction, personal targeting, abuse of power from the USG right now is the caution/fear folks on the Left/middle have about the government. (Which old school, small government conservatives have always had!)

Maybe now we’ll all agree to restrict government power?

Found an old email from a guy with a generic name and no context. Tried to find him on Linkedin and way too many possibilities. Was able to extract the google image in Gmail, get a larger copy, use a Pimeyes to find newer/bigger images, then reverse lookup to Linkedin. Fun!

Really impressed with where the big LLMs are now. Crazy times we live in now and it’s only going to accelerate.

Does anyone know why the CRA they passed INCREASES DoD spending?

Was there anyone in either party saying we don’t spend enough on the military in the US? Is there a war happening that I’m unaware of?

My understanding is the new regime wants to get out of wars.. so why a larger military? 🤔

Hearing a fun pitch on automatically releasing patches to fix security vulnerabilities.

I had a patent from 20+ years ago w/automated code repair. Brought up AI vulnerability discovery & patching at DARPA 17 years ago and was told by a peer that humans would have to do it.

We live in the future!
