We have had a very busy week preparing for @idm314.bsky.social on Friday.
The library staff showed me how to use @goosechase.com with AAMTs scavenger hunt and we had students with iPads in library searching for octagons, percentages and roman numerals.

Maths Faculty Meeting on Valentine's Day

So we spent the first 10 mins of meeting colouring hearts in 4 colours so they each colour has the same area.

There is something so relaxing about colouring and chatting.

First day working at new school. Lots of information and very excited to get started, but as we were leaving, there was a kangaroo on campus.

Anyone else got good first day back stories?

Re-read: A Mathematician’s Lament.
I read it w #MathsBookclubWA years ago; This time it feels different.
My first read I took the idea of teachers needing to make Maths more palatable for disinterested students. This time I noticed commentary on the nature of Mathematics.

I'm setting up my desk at my new school for 2025.

Calming views to hills of Kaurna land with an easternly perspective; bring that morning sunshine 🌄.
Plus space for my Origami and Rubik's shapes.

Time for to get some work done👨‍💻

Not really a recommendation (as I am just starting it) but I'm reading "Teaching Mathematics for Social Justice")

It is quite American centric and aimed at classroom teachers, but might be refreshing given the books in you #read2024 list?

Well this didn't seem to work...I think I just recreated Fibonacci sequence...

I think I need a different approach.

Hey #EduSkyAU & #EduSky,
Started w Thinking Lessons Rubric. As a faculty we set 3 rubric lines:
Strategies,
Content and
Improvements.

It didn't really work... I'm still contemplating why 🤔

I'm moving to a school that is part of Uni of Mel New Metrics. Hopefully I'll revisit this there.

You could consider Eddie Woo's book that has lots of interesting Maths for kids to explore.

In #MathsToday we were making Sierpinski Tetrahedrons (Green so they can approximate a Christmas 🎄 tree)

These two quiet students loved it being called
"Sir Pink C"
They decided it needed to be a handsome hat.

Today's classroom was Christie's Beach.

Getting off campus to explore virtues and character as part of Rite Journey.

Great talking with these young men about their current challenges and reflecting on similar challenges had by young men over the decades.

It is refreshing to run a transition activity with excited Yr 6 students getting ready for Secondary School.

We played with volume to help with estimation. Started with centi-cubes and 1 litre blocks then tried students in a cubic meter. So many volunteers!

A great read for all Maths teachers!
