Software engineer and gaming nerd. Posts and thoughts are my own.
Kind of the exact thought I have whenever someone talks about “prompt engineering”.

I’m sorry. You’re not an engineer just because you add “please don’t hallucinate” to your query.

Did they ever fix the game after the ultra wide update? I remember waiting for that after the last season of the show and they broke everything when playing on ultra wide.

Now that the "AI" companies have gone directly to all three major RAM manufacturers with piles of cash, they decided they don't care about price control anymore. They've let the entire RAM market flounder so they can instead make specialized HBM RAM for "AI" servers.

Irresponsible as you can get.

But also you kind of need to do the first 80% to learn and understand what to do for the last 20%.

I’ve been describing it to other engineers as the 80/20 problem. The first 80% of the work is easy and takes 20% of the time. The last 20% is hard and takes 80% of the time. GenAI is good at the first 80% but is pretty terrible at the last 20%.

That was such a weird thing to read for me. The naming conventions were the same! They were trivially different but since the AI said it didn’t plagiarize the person asserted it didn’t plagiarize.

This is the case with neural nets in general. The theory was disproven through experiments but ML people still cling onto it as the “one true way our brains work.”

They got rid of pensions and don’t raise salaries much so there isn’t a lot of incentive to take the training and run to another job that will pay you more. Again, because they don’t want to pay for it.

They learned the answer to a multi choice question on an AP Government test back in high school and have never thought critically about it once.

I kind of had a realization a couple of days ago they’re doing a weird Pascal’s wager. If AGI would bring infinite prosperity, then you’d do anything to obtain it logical fallacies going all the way down.

Or people exiting through the “emergency exit” gate because it was faster and you got to help someone skip a line and nobody really cared anyway.

Like if there were in fact some orderly system, I too would say we should follow that! That would be great. There isn't! Total figment of the collective imagination.

And I've complained enough about it, but I am confident the vast vast majority of people think there's some kind of immigration system migrants are "skipping" and they ought to be doing their application and waiting so that the rules can be followed.

This same conclusion is the hill I’ll probably die on. I think Biden would have barely won if Democrats hadn’t knifed him in the back ands the reason Kamala lost was just plain old sexism and nothing else.

They’re getting rid of both the bread and the circus which is not usually the way you maintain power.
