Tacking right likely doesn't activate these voters. Consistently behaving as a candidate focused on their constituents more than on ideological battles seems more promising. 4/4

*but* they don't consider themselves ideologically left-wing. Ideological messaging (Left, Right or Center) is not helping them find candidates who they would support. That doesn't make them moderates, and it doesn't mean that messaging on "moderation" will activate them. 3/

There's been a lot of time spent dissecting specific issues, especially on the "left" - but I think this also makes a strong case for a values-first approach to campaigning and communication. The voters who are focused on "affordability" in this data tend to support more progressive positions - 2/
