You mean "not let him" because was in jail, after which he he fought to stay? Mostly what I wrote was about was in reference to just how long people in many immigration cases have been in the country.

Does the parliamentarian provide details of why a provision doesn't meet the Byrd rules for reconciliation? It's a huge amount of power for one person to wield without the provision of a consistent basis for decisions.

"place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis"

I also heard it touted as a place with greater civility. But I suspect that was because it is largely a blue silo and being civil to those you agree with isn't the problem on social media.

The law that created Public Broadcasting says, “...with strict adherence to objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature”

Does this provision violate the 1st Amendment in anyway? If it’s valid law, how would it be enforced?

“While the Senate spending cuts are set at just around $4 billion, the House intends to cut at least $1.5 trillion.”

Or .002666667 of the House cuts over 10 years and less than that on an annual level. Who cares about federal debt?

Alien is the legal term for non-citizens, which is why I wrote the later. It applies regardless of legal standing.

So are you actually in support of effective employment eligibility enforcement or are you using the lack of it to argue against immigration law enforcement in general?
April 4, 2025 at 6:40 PM
It's against the law to overstay you visa, making it an illegal act, even if it's not a crime.
April 4, 2025 at 6:28 PM
Of course there is. Nobody claims they are illegal people, rather they are illegal aliens, non citizens in the country in violation of our immigration laws. Things that aren’t criminal can still be illegal. I'm sure this is an unpopular argument on the BlueSilo.

When the math doesn't work, invent your own math that does. I wouldn't think the scorekeeper of such things, the CBO, is going to go along.

That's implicit in what I wrote. They primarily pay those taxes because the law requires employers to withhold them.
March 22, 2025 at 11:32 PM
I hear that said by lots of people who want to reward those here unlawfully with legal status, which would make them eligible for Social Security and Medicare, as well as other government benefits.

Undocumented immigrants working on the books have taxes withheld, like everyone else. It's not a choice. They often file to get refunds including child tax credits for their U.S. born children.
March 22, 2025 at 10:51 PM
The best way to find those here illegally is to use Social Security's "no match" suspense files. They point to specific people being employed who are highly likely to be using fake Social Security numbers, the most common form of document fraud.

There's nothing more demonstrative of the elite's lutter disregard for immigration law than the failure to effectively enforce employment eligibility in all the time since it supposed became illegal in the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

I was just reading the ITEP study that piece references this morning because of another article that used it to say, "Undocumented Immigrants Contribute $8.5 Billion in California Taxes a Year."

So how much will California pay for Medi-Cal for the undocumented this year? $8.5 billion
California's Medi-Cal shortfall hits $6.2 billion with 'unprecedented' cost increases
Several factors are contributing to the increased spending, including pharmacy costs and higher-than-expected enrollment from immigrants living in the state without legal authorization.

Many people bought or refinanced when interest rates were at record lows, around 3%. For those people to sell and buy another home, at current loan rates, they would face 50% higher payments for the same amount of mortgage debt as they currently hold.

The House Budget Committee Resolution proposes these changes to the baseline budget budget deficits (not deficits in general). There’s a target of $500 billion more in cuts that are “pay fors” for the tax cuts and reduce those cuts if not set in law.

Their resignation letters should spell out their objections as to why they can't follow the orders given to them from above. Those objections should have already been conveyed to their superiors, giving them a chance to change their minds. The resignation letter puts it in the record.
