Correct they are not in fact getting paid. While there is a government shutdown, they are not being paid. They are considered essential, which means they are required to keep working, without receiving a paycheck. Presumably, they will receive backpay once the government reopens.

Right. I think if the Dems said that, there would be more support for their shutdown strategy.
