It's an interesting idea. Certainly a "yes, and" to do both traditional amplication and this. Do people still have portable radios, though? Do I have to dig my 90s Walkman out of the attic??

*if they DID, they'd be maxing out

Also right up front, where the speakers are, it sounds loud, so they don't try to project much. They have no idea how quiet it is just 50 feet away. These kinds of events don't have sound techs, and if they didn't they'd be maxing out their gain already.

Bunch of things:
- People absorb sound really well, so crowds prevent people behind from hearing
- Most speakers are fairly directional -- they only really send sound out in a fairly narrow cone
- Inverse square law - double the distance, sound is 4 times weaker. Makes volume fall off very quickly

Jon I've been saying that since we started this last year, not a single protest has had adequate audio: not the 500 person ones and not the 50,000 person ones. Whatever the next one is that I'm closely involved in planning, I am going to push for MASSIVE OVERKILL on the sound gear.

Portland is completely blocked off between 34th and 35th and has been since the early morning, residents of the area and activists are monitoring car traffic in and out to give the community room to grieve and process the events of yesterday

Air it anyway, team. You know you want to. Bari is going to get swept away with the rest of the grifters when it all comes tumbling down, anyway.

Does he know you can just look this stuff up??

How long are you going to keep this post pinned, after laying off all your politics staff? Just curious, the second-hand embarrassment is strong.

Full transparency, this chart only includes the high runners. The full data includes many lesser candies including Tootsie Rolls (0 this year!), Crunch, Whoppers, Gummy Bears and many, many more. Total haul increased every year since 2020 until a small decline this year.

We've got a running spreadsheet since 2019. The big story this year was Kit Kat's dramatic fall, after 6 years of dominance, to a lowly 4th place finish.
