A Bear Called Otter
@jrtheotterbear.bsky.social
Geeky Gen X bear, married to an amazing geeky wolf. Trying to put some joy in the world. Amateur VA. Babbler about cooking, baking, baking shows, horror movies, audio dramas, actual-plays, TTRPGs, and sometimes hiking.
Leaving the original novel to the mountain of commentary already out there, let's talk about the Universal Frankenstein films! I watched all eight films and listened to so many podcasts in appreciating theses classics.

So with aliens behind us... it's time to talk about Frankenstein.
The new season of Evolution of Horror is well underway, exploring the Man-Made Monsters subgenre, so naturally we begin with the most classic man-made monster of all!

So much to say on this, many threads to come!

We must have said too much! Posted about too many alien horror films ... Taken. Taken and replaced by this guy with a podcast...

But we're back! Words can't describe what we experienced. It's best to move on.

I think I'll keep the podcast, tho, it's pretty cute.

Happy Godzilla Day!

I just went out there and performed baking favors. 376 French macarons in four days.

I'm really quite tired.

I've been very absent from the skies of late, but I'm here to say that Squishmothra loves honeynut squash.

Sweaty pride picnic bear says hello!

Got to see this on the big screen tonight! What an absolute treat! If your local cinema is like mine, it may be playing all week. And really, if it's playing all week in Erie, PA, it's gotta be everywhere. Take advantage, people, this is a rare opportunity! #godzilla #shingodzilla #movies

It's a swerve into mind-bending cosmic horror next with a Benson & Moorhead double feature, Resolution (2012) and The Endless (2017). These are a treat! Puzzling, strange and showing real artistry in squeezing impressive results from small budgets! Squishmothra was confused (me too) but intrigued!

In case you're having a tough Monday, Squishmothra made you a vanilla cinnamon latte.

Up next, alien horror c i n e m a! I need to catch up on posting these, since the new season of Evolution of Horror started. The Mist (Frank Darabont, 2007) Annihilation (2018, Alex Garland). I love one of these films and hate the other. Can you guess which is which? #horror #movies #aliens #cosmic

Next up in alien cinema, Signs (2002, M. Night Shyamalan) and Cloverfield (2008, Matt Reeves) I think these are great to see twice. After that they stale quickly. Signs is probably my favorite MNS film and it genuinely did scare me on first viewing. Cloverfield, well I love a giant monster, don't I?

Playing a little catch-up here with more alien horror cinema from the 90s! Chiefly, The Faculty (Robert Rodriguez, 1998) and as a small bonus The Puppet Masters (Stuart Orme, 1994). This was a good time, mostly, possibly about as much nostalgia for my late teens/early 20s as I need for a while.

Next in my alien & sci-fi horror cinema journey, two popcorn classics of my youth!
Independence Day (1996, Roland Emmerich) and Mars Attacks! (1995, Tim Burton). Had a lot of fun revisiting these, Squishmothra was into it. Were either of these horror? Hardly, but still a worthy part of the journey.

Next up in our cinematic journey: The Hidden (1987, Jack Sholder) and They Live (John Carpenter, 1988). This was a fun double bill! Squishmothra was very into it. Not much to say about The Hidden. They Live... Well, thoughts below.

The hungry bear stalks his prey. I swear I'm composed of at least 35% cherries this time of year.

Next up in our odyssey of alien/sci-fi/cosmic horror a powerful foursome! Who doesn't like the sound of that? This was an interesting journey.
From Beyond (Stuart Gordon, 1986)
Event Horizon (1997, Paul W.S. Anderson)
Sunshine (2007, Danny Boyle)
Pandorum (2009, Christian Alvart)

Our alien horror journey continues with a rollicking good time double feature: Bad Taste (Peter Jackson, 1987) and Killer Klowns from Outer Space (Stephen Chiodo, 1988).

This was my first time seeing Bad Taste, Killer Klowns is a lifetime favorite! #movies #horror #aliens #horrormovies
