Remind me again: why does (seemingly) everyone recommend kit.com? Basics are OK - but some of the features don't work and the docs are...not elucidatory.

Wow. First high-level read of a draft m.s. for a 2026 release and WOW, it is cringe. I wrote it months ago. Learned a lot since then, and I'm grateful I have time to revise this mess!!!

Know what I mean? Yikes.

I'm listening to the Zoolook album by Jean-Michel Jarre for the first time in decades. What a genius production! I forgot how killer this music is. All 1980s samplers (synthesizers). Makes me want to re-read Neuromancer. No kidding.

There will be no election in 2028. Do people not read history any more? If that is too much effort listen to a podcast about the rise of the Nazis. MAGA are following a blueprint that relies on people being unable to believe they are doing exactly what they said they would in Project 2025

As Trump marches toward militarizing San Francisco:

- Memorize contact info in case of arrest
- Plan ahead if you have children or medication
- Speak out PEACEFULLY and at a distance

Stay smart, safe, and don’t give them the excuse they're wanting to escalate their crackdown.

Been a while. I've been heads-down at the desk, and finished the revisions and the proofread of the debut novelette. On schedule for releasing this year. Now also going through the drafts for next year's novellas. Busy! More stuff soon. 👋

Just received the notes from a Development Editor, I'm excited to start the next revision. An excellent editor is like an excellent music teacher: an excellent coach, and someone on your side to help you get to where you want to go.

The notes, by the way, are fantastic. Sharpening pencils now.

About that draft. I had my chapters, scenes and beats worked out beforehand. That changed a little as I wrote. About 4 weeks of work to complete, about 40k words. I hated the thing until chap 7, when it began to feel good. Power through, finish! No one sees it but me. 1/2

Phew. The draft of the follow-up to "The Frost Emerald Affair" (debut book!) is done. Novella length, 11 chapters! Next? I don't look at it for a week or two, then start the first revision. It's for a 2026 release, but time flies, and I expect a zillion revisions, so.... work work work work work!

So about a month ago I posted a short vignette on my blog, practice writing from a prompt.

Fantasy genre, and reasonably amusing (if you ask me).

It's a very quick read. Thoughts? Comments? Please!

San Francisco is just not cold and windy enough for July. It hit 60 today. A scorcher.

I'll tell you what: being a fast draft writer means a ton of revisions and edits afterwards: but as I get to the tail-end of the revision cycle, the story really starts to feel great and read well. Very much like music production process or software dev.

I'm starting to feel proud of this work!

Revision 12 of the story is done. 21k words, 3 acts. Good job, now take the rest of the minute off.

You know the advice 'just keep writing'? It can be hard to hear, but it's true. I had no clue what I was doing in 2016 but I learned from my (many) mistakes and kept writing.
It might take years, the wins might be small, but your readers are out there. Don't give up.

Last night I dreamt that Tharks were invading Los Angeles. I haven't read any John Carter of Mars stories since I was a kid. What the hell, subconscious, what are you trying to tell me?

If you like RPGs or funny sci-fi fantasy stories with some over the top gore this is the book for you!
Dungeon Crawler Carl is ludicrous to the point of making you laugh out loud and gross enough to make you want to make others read it in the “Does this smell bad to you?” kind of way.

Hoo boy. Working on a draft of a new story (to see if it's actually a good plot & idea) and last night I realized I absolutely borked Act 2. As one does. Started from scratch on Acts 2 and 3.

How many times have you done this?

I just posted a video on TikTok: You don't know if something was written by AI.

Think the presence of em-dashes and certain syntax or style is a give-away? Think again. I bust that idea, and show my work.

@j.r.redstone over at the 'tok. Check it out and let me know what you think.
